    birding with a disability

Hi Nina(hope all is well with you- and yes reading betwen your lines, it does indeed sound possibly similar ), i thought i hadn't looked in on this one for a while now so decided in that case it must now be relevant and not before time !!! to pop back in and have another look.I will apologise...

    id'ing Curlew v Whibrel in-flight (UK)

Yes that's the one Deborah. Unfortunately no better luck today as i was far too tired this morning and the tide (and birds) was miles away this evening (anyone have any advice for using a scope on the train ? ;)) Ho-hum maybe tomorrow...

    Suffolk Birding

Can't compete with the in-depth knowledge on here but for anyone with an interest in walking and / or public transport i thought i'd put up an interesting (imo) link i came across on a train today - East suffolk Lines Walks it's called, which is a fairly self-explanatory title all about walking...

    id'ing Curlew v Whibrel in-flight (UK)

thanks, the train is usually not going much faster than walking speed (high speed, what's that ?) along that bit so i guess bins would be useable, if look a little silly, (note to self and anyone else interested - there was a thread a while back that dealt with the intricacies of using bino's on...

    Problems With IE7

    id'ing Curlew v Whibrel in-flight (UK)

Are there any easily identifiable features of Curlew v Whimbrel in-flight ? The reason i ask is that my train journey to work goes past Breydon Water where i like to look out of the window, as you do, where both these sp. are often seen. Now, it's reasonably ok-ish when they're side by side, but...

How do I survey a Windfarm?

To answer your questions directly "[A]Do most Windfarm companies own the mountain where the Windfarm is, or do they rent it? - [B]Is access difficult? - [C]do Windfarm engineers take a dim view of tresspassers looking for casulties? [D]Are casulties usually found directly under the blades, or...

How do I survey a Windfarm?

Hi Keith, i can't point you in any offical direction but i often survey / look around for bladekill at a local windfarm at Blood Hills (no giggling at the back please) near Hemsby. Admittedly i only use my bino's, as the turbines are close enough to the road, and i've never run across the field...

Wild bird offences bring car ban (BBC News)

I guess they'd let him pay it off at a low rate (£few a week) ? . so as to not force him to go below a certain level of income. But having described him as "of limited means" i can't see the initiative in making him into "of even more limited means, with no transport to get to work" . Surely...

    Brazil's dead penguin mystery

Environmental police are investigating the deaths of at least 180 oil-soaked penguins which have been washed ashore in southern Brazil in the past week. LINK Here

Wild bird offences bring car ban (BBC News)

Whilst the £1000 fine seems reasonable, i have to admit it's not immediately obvious to me why impose a driving ban on someone who has (apparently) not commtted a driving offence. Ok, so yes it will stop him driving round buying / selling birds (if he takes any notice of the ban) but it...

    BIGBY Birding 2008

Hi Matt, sorry, i see you posted that 2 weeks ago ( :eek!: ) but i've only just seen it. Yes that is a slightly better area then the northern (Asda) side of Breydon which isn't too pleasant *sometimes*. Only thing i guess you'd need to get the bus to BC but tbh i aren't sure which one, or you...

    Norfolk birding

just a note of caution for anyone heading birding / holiday-ing to east Norfolk (Gt Yarmouth in particular) - news report this morning that over the weekend a band of 47 travellers / pikeys / gypo's caravans descended on beach station coach park near the sea front (not too far from Sainsbury's)...

    Late nesting Swifts

that's interesting Andy, i'd never thought of immature birds prospecting for nesting sites. They certainly were screaming as they entered the site when they first (appear to have) turned up, but i haven't seen or heard anything for a couple of days now so maybe they have moved on. But i will...

    BIGBY Birding 2008

Interesting link here to Harlequin and some other ladybird recognition - it does look (well, to me anyway) a bit like one of the colour variants towards the bottom of the page, so maybe you have something there Halfy

    BIGBY Birding 2008

Yeah go on Gi, just one more... Lovely scenery you have there Deborah but, no sorry, i don't know anything about ladybirds. I haven't been out too much recently either, think i'm still getting used to my results from last months hospital visit. Had a few Turnstones and Dunlin on Caister beach...

    BIGBY Birding 2008

Thought, as it's lounging down on page 2, that it's time this was bumped up again. And what better thing to talk about than bikes, and cheap bikes too.... As we (in the UK anyhow) are now coming into the time of year for bike sales... ... I thought it perhaps reasonable to mention Evans Cycles...

    I have a problem - Your views?

Hi again. #1, sorry but contradicting the volunteer seems to be the thrust of this thread. #2, i'm not sure that's totally true, esp. IF there are sched. 1 breeding sp. in the area. Requesting a written response from the Reserve Manager / Head Warden would seem to be the way forward, as i see...

    I have a problem - Your views?

Hi. Ok, on point 1, what did you say at this point ? could you not have suggested an alternative reply to the volunteer, such as, maybe, "oh, i'm sure i was told..." On #2, if you are entirely sure the volunteer knew that is was open access, but simply chose to forget (or was told to lie ?)...
