New to birding and of course looking at Binos, Are MHG 8X42 overkill?

Good glass is always preferable there is no such thing as overkill for a beginner. everything has to do with budget and perceived value. For me I can never use lower end optics, as I am a bit too fastidious for anything short of perfection. Even at the flagship alpha level I am still...

    Rise of the hipster Birdwatcher.

I am not sure if i am a Millennial but i was born in the late 80s, I carry both binoculars and cameras maybe not always on the same day. I think that Birding is something that generally comes in a later stage of life, akin to collecting of any sort. I think nature observation is quite popular...

I am looking for a shotgun mic any recommendations

It seems that the popular ones that birders use is the Sennheiser mke 600 and the mk66/k7 which comes with their own power which is not necessary for me right ? As my recorder has its own phantom power. And having such is more costly right ?

    Troubador's Review: MeoStar B1 10x42 HD

Hey Lee You and meopta, I would have never guessed as you are such a Zeiss fan. I have been tempted to buy the meopro HD for rough use

I am looking for a shotgun mic any recommendations

I am new to nature recording. I am using a tascam DR-100mkiii which I use for music and video. I am probably going to mainly record in tropical rainforest. Any recommendations ?

I feel your pain, whenever I travel struggle to live with slow internet. In Singapore some of the telcom companies offer symmetrical upload and download .

Zeiss HT - 2 years on

I think everybody here knows my story so there is no need for me to harp on it. Optically it is great. Build wise I seem to be in the minority.

The NEW Meopro HD line...still no thoughts?

I already have a pair of 42s and also have a pair of nikon EII 8x30 which are my favourite pair of bins but I want to get a pair of binoculars for camping and I can be rough with it. It is for trips where I am not birding but want a pair as a side thing to do like on a trek or fishing.

    Moderately priced 8x30-32 compact.

Nikon EII 8x30. By far my favourite pair of binoculars. Most comfortable view. Even beats the alphas that I have and used.

The NEW Meopro HD line...still no thoughts?

Thanks for the info, I am planning to get a pair of waterproof 8x32. Weighing my options between the SV, conquest HD and the meopta. By far the cheapest and might suit the rough and tumber purpose that I am going to use it for.

    Astroscope + DSLR = Gallery!

My ota weighs about 7.5kg and with the clam shell a heavy duty tripod head, tripod which already weighs about 6 KGS, a lot of adaptors that Takahashi love so much and the camera. So ota is 7.5kg + clam shell is 0.8kg + tripod and head 6+kg + camera 1 kg + adaptors 0.5kg = 15.8 kg

    Astroscope + DSLR = Gallery!

I think I might retire this scope from terrestrial use unless I get a porter or only at a fix position. It is way too heavy for birding use. The whole setup with tripod is almost 15-16 kg. One day in the field is quite enough. I might have to save up for a 500 or 600 f4 lens,it would be much...
