    Woodpeckers in Belgium

Is anyone able to point me toward a site in Belgium (or Calais area), or even into Holland, which is reliable for Middle Spotted and Black Woodpecker (for later this month). All advise is welcome.

Common Cranes - largest UK count

This evening myself and Matthew Lonsdale watched 78 Cranes arrive at the Nene Washes, Cambs to roost (72+3+3). This is new county record (beating the 68 from the day before!), but is it also a UK record count? I'm told a large flock flew over Dungeness in October 1985. Does anyone have any...

    Common Tern, UK?

Video from today in Norfolk. Assumed to be a dark-billed (2nd-summer?) Common Tern in the field (especially given the deep based and not very long bill), but the very pale primaries were at odds with all the (adult) Common Terns present. It didn't scream-out Roseate, so just making sure...

    Juvenile Gull, UK

I have this down as a juvenile Caspian Gull (Cambridgeshire, from last month). A number of interesting juvenile LHWG's around currently, including some obvious Yellow-legged Gulls and 1-2 juvenile Caspian Gulls. Excuse the quality - video grabs from a distant bird. Any who agree/disagree?

    Samsung Galaxy S8

Hi all, I've just switched from iPhone to Android, and the Samsung Galaxy S8 camera seems very impressive when used for taking normal photos - however, its not quite as good for digi-scoping as the iPhone..... or at least that is how it seems currently. I can't believe this to be true though...

    South of France

I will be holidaying in the south of France in July (having driven in from UK). Certainly not a great time for birding, I know, but any suggestions of sites worth a visit (either on-route or along the south coast). Obviously the Camargue will be included in the itinerary. Any sites for Citril...

    Sacred Ibis N.Italy

Whilst driving from Milan to Turin on the A4 I saw a small gathering of Sacred Ibis beside a drainage ditch (10-15 birds). I assume these are from some localised breeding population near-by?

    Arctic Fox

Can anyone recommend a site with a reasonable chance of seeing Arctic Fox in early-May (Western Iceland region preferably). My wife would be thrilled to see some of these (plus it will buy me bonus points when I have to drag her along to look at Gulls!).

    Challenge Series; Autumn

Does anyone know where I might be able to source a copy of this book (second hand would be okay), as it seems to be sold-out everywhere I look; http://britishbirds.co.uk/article/birding-frontiers-challenge-series-autumn/ TIA

    Tanzanian Species

Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone has any opinions on the identification of the attached species, which I took recently whilst on safari in Serengeti. I think #3 is Stout Cisticola and the two Flycatchers are Ashy (as opposed to African Grey Flycatcher) Thanks Mark

    Leica 82mm APO set-up

For a number of years now, I have been using an old TZ Panasonic Lumix compact camera (one of the first few models or this camera, which is now produced with a huge number of different models). It always worked very well on my old Leica 77mm (with zoom) and almost as well on my 82mm scope (also...

    BB interactive

Does anyone know if the British Birds interactive CD-Rom publication is still being sold anywhere, as it seems pretty hard to come by on the www? Also, are annual updates still being released? Thanks in advance,

    Bangkok area in May

I have a meeting in Bangkok towards the end of May, but I have bagged a couple of days beforehand with some free time. Where would be a good place to spend 2-3 days birding. I'm prepared to hire a car and drive if required. As Thailand is a new country for me, many species will be new, so I'm...

    Chinese Crested Tern

Excuse my ignorance on this subject, but what chance is there of being able to connect with Chinese Crested Terns in the Qingdao area in May (or any time of year, for that matter!). I know the breeding population is ultra-small now, but I have no idea of the accessibility (or otherwise) for this...

    Vienna Woods

Can anyone on this group offer advise on a good spot to bird in Vienna Woods for Grey-headed Woodpecker (and other general species). I have one and a half days to pass with some birding around Vienna (in a weeks time). Also, any advise on good areas to search around Neusiedler including for...
