Flycatcher? - Pagham, Sussex UK 22nd September

I thought this was a regular Spotted Flycatcher when I saw it on Friday, bit looking at it again I'm struck by the red / brown colour on the tail, as well as a reddish tint on the front too. I've not seen this before - any thoughts? Thank you, Charles

    Hawk - Ticehurst, East Sussex

I thought this was going to be a Buzzard but I've never seen this colouring pattern before, with the brown/ red shoulders contrasting with the black body , head and lateral wing. I snapped these pics on Saturday evening just a minute after the other bird which I took to be a buzzard (also...

    Waders in Norfolk UK

Hello, I'm trying to get more familiar with wading birds and I'm struggling with some IDs from a trip to the North Norfolk coast a month ago. I think the first 3 may be Golden Plovers but not certain, and I can't work out if the fourth is a Dunlin or a Sandpiper. Many thanks, Charlie

Warblers and waders in East Sussex

Hello, need a little help to confirm some IDs from the last couple of weeks. I'm still struggling with the old willow warbler v chiffchaff dilemma, and can't convince myself after staring at wing length and leg colour. I'm sure it's really obvious but some guidance would be appreciated. Second...

UK birds - thrush / warbler / bunting

Thanks all for your input. I had an inkling that they might be Mistle thrushes, but I find it hard enough to distinguish the adults.

    UK waders

Thanks very much for your help. I hadn't thought of Dunlin - not spotted one of those before.

    UK waders

Last one for today. I've been giving myself a rapid education in British waders, but still finding them tricky. The first 2 birds (pic 1&2 the same) were both taken in Jersey in August. The last 2 were at Cuckmere Haven, Eat Sussex yesterday. Many thanks for your help! Charles

UK birds - thrush / warbler / bunting

I'm trying to sort through my files and clear up my bird IDs. There are a few I'd be grateful for some help with. First 2 - some young Thrushes in Sussex in May- can't work out if they're Song or Mistle. 3rd - the old Chilffchaff or Willow Warbler conundrum 4&5 - I think a Bunting, photographed...

    British Pipits?

Thanks very much for your help - I do find some of these IDs tricky! I perhaps should have said, picture 3 was up on the Downs (Ditchling Beacon) and number 4 was near the coast (Cuckmere Haven).

    British Pipits?

Hello, I'm needing some help identifying these birds. The first two were by the shore in Jersey & Cornwall respectively, and I think may be Rock Pipits. The others I've found at various times in Sussex and I think may all be Tree Pipits, but I'm getting confused with Skylarks. Any guidance...

    Finches - Sussex, UK

Thank you! Hadn't recognised the chaffinch - the colouring and prominent crest had thrown me off.

    Finches - Sussex, UK

I need help identifying a couple of birds I spotted today. The first (2 pics) I think may be a juvenile bullfinch, but would value a second opinion. The second I'm not sure about, but looks like a finch or bunting, possibly juvenile? Any help is much appreciated. Charles

    Warbler & ? other - Sussex, UK

I'd appreciate some help to identify a couple of birds I've spotted recently. First two pics are of a warbler ? garden or reed. Second 2 pics I'm struggling to identify whether it's a warbler something else - looks a bit fly-catcher to me. Thanks for your input!

Hello all - would appreciate some help identifying these two Plovers. I'm thinking Semipalmated & Piping, but I'm really not sure. Many thanks, Charles

    UK warblers

So it seems the warblers are still around at work - I took some more pictures on Sunday which show the bird quite clearly. I'm seeing dark legs and fairly short wing tips so I'm thinking Chiffchaff - any thoughts?

    UK warblers

More pics! The first two are the same bird as the first bird in the original post, while the others were seen on separate occasions, although in largely the same location. I must pay more attention to the song - this was my first encounter with the warbler identification conundrum, and after a...

    UK warblers

No, I'm not sure it's the same bird - for a few days last week there were a number of warblers all over the place (there were some more clearly identified Blackcaps too) and I'd assumed the "little yellow birds" were all the same, but may be a mixture of Willow Warblers, Chiffchaffs and anything...
