    The P1000 is big

In terms of size, hand-held usability, picture quality and zoom reach, is the P900 still the overall better camera?

    The P1000 is big

Have you tried it on planets? Apparently you can get some decent shots of Mars, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn with the P900...I have to assume the P1000 would be even better. You can get a star tracker app on your phone to track where the planets are and there are tutorials on youtube on how to...

    Coolpix B700

Currently using the Canon SX50. In fact I started off with the very same SX50 back in 2013. Upgraded very very briefly to the SX60 but could not stand the shake at max zoom so I returned almost instantly. This was a while ago though so they might have fixed that, I'm not sure. Then I moved...

83x anyone? The new Nikon P900

I sold my P900 a while ago...it was too heavy and expensive. The IQ wasn't that much better over my old Canon SX50 to warrant the additional expense and weight. Been trying to find a Nikon P610 or B700 at reasonable prices but no luck so far. They're both lighter and smaller than the SX50...

    Nikon P610

Would you say it is better than the P610? Is it only better in the megapixel department (20 vs 16)? Are there any ways that the P610 is better?

    Nikon P610

I have an SX50 currently, upgraded to a P900 for about year but then sold it due to its massive weight which I could not bear any longer. So now considering the P610 and was hoping to keep the conversation going on this somewhat overlooked camera.

    Nikon coolpix b700

This camera seems very similar to the P610 which seems like a fairly decent replacement for the P600. Is RAW capability the only reason to choose the B700 over the P610? Or are there other factors? I found RAW to be unnecessary tbh...just my own personal opinion.

Spotted Nutcracker in July Black Forest?

I went in early August and saw 2 beautiful Nutcrackers without much difficulty. Also present were Eurasian Jays. Not sure if the Nutcrackers are always present but it did appear they were there for the peanuts and thus probably visit frequently. Nutcrackers are part of the Corvid family and...

    Birding Kaiserstuhl

I went to the this area in August and saw probably the last Bee-Eaters in all of Germany before they also left for migration. It was very hot. No luck on the Hoopoe though.

83x anyone? The new Nikon P900

Yes I think so. And I think you should first try another P900 before asking for a full refund. That way you can hopefully experience the P900's full potential. Good luck.

83x anyone? The new Nikon P900

Dude you should definitely return it ...I don't even know why you're hesitating. Those are not the pictures the P900 should be taking. I noticed immediately how superior the P900 is to my SX50. In fact I'm starting to wonder if I had a faulty SX50 or maybe you had a really good one because...

HS50 EXR settings for bird photography

I bumped into a fellow birder yesterday who has this camera and I found it a very interesting camera. I might look into purchasing it. But one word of warning, the camera seems to go bonkers once you get past the "frame" number limit...which is the camera's internal picture counter. I think...

83x anyone? The new Nikon P900

I don't know, I try to avoid "bloatware"...just give me a drive I can access and I'll do the rest.

83x anyone? The new Nikon P900

Micro USB...it's the same cable that I charge my phone with. It's great actually because as I look at my pics, the camera is charging.

It's huge. But surprisingly well balanced.

83x anyone? The new Nikon P900

Awesome pics! I just wanted to clarify that I got better iridescent colours (ie. on Ducks) than I did with the SX50. It seemed like the SX50 got blown out easily (by strong whites, strong reds etc) but then I used mostly auto settings so I take part of the blame.

83x anyone? The new Nikon P900

Sometimes you gotta take a risk and see for yourself. I think every individual human being perceives an object differently. Some notice its weight, some its shape, others its colour. Same goes for this camera...some aspects of it may turn you off while others make you very happy. All I...

83x anyone? The new Nikon P900

2 more impressions: 1. Due to its weight and length when fully extended, the lense seems to jiggle a bit in its casing. Anyone else find this? 2. This camera shoots fantastic videos. I shot a video on the weekend of fast-flying ducks and was surprised at the quality considering how fast I...

83x anyone? The new Nikon P900

Careful, I think you took that quote a bit out of context. In the review he seemed to be referring to the IQ @ full 83x zoom: " I simply found the incredible zoom didn’t always deliver the goods, wasn’t always useable and even in optimum condition image quality was at best only average." And...

83x anyone? The new Nikon P900

This camera does not offer great low-light performance. May keep my SX50 for that.

83x anyone? The new Nikon P900

I agree with your post. Great quality and incredible IS on such a crazy zoom. And yes the buffer does kinda bother me as well. I might try to go for a 150mb/s sd card to see if that makes a difference. It's still better than the SX50 and I still got by. The SX60 is great though, the nice...

83x anyone? The new Nikon P900

I think that this camera can be potentially spectacular. It's already taken some breath-taking images...under admittedly very good conditions, but it definitely surpassed the SX50. And I think I can control the dark images by raising the exposure or shooting manually and softening the...

83x anyone? The new Nikon P900

Took some more pictures today and only used the Birding mode. It's pretty good. It's still a bit dark but it's crazy how it doesn't appear dark on the display. Very misleading. I really gotta crank up the exposure tomorrow. But when the lighting is ideal (and I mean clear sky, sun right on...

83x anyone? The new Nikon P900

Update: I tried the birding setting, which I'll probably use most often. Seems like it is more balanced, but then I'll be better able to tell once I get home. The shots I took yesterday also seemed fine on the camera preview but when I looked at them on the computer, I was shocked how dark...
