    Birding apps?

    I believe the updated Audubon app includes these features. I don’t use that app anymore, as it now takes up too much space on my phone. I liked having it as a second field guide app, but the new features make it a storage space hog.

    Rare bird?

    Nothing wrong with that. I got extremely excited the first time I saw one, and still get excited when I travel west and am able to see them again.Beautiful birds (and very noisy, too!).

    I’m pretty sure American Goldfinch breeding season comes later in the summer. Their breeding season in timed to coincide with thistle seeds ripening on the plants, which occurs in July and August in this zone.

    I noticed that John W saw the red-flanked bluetail at the Clark Library in Los Angeles, California yesterday, and a few rarities in LRGV Texas the days before, where he bumped into Nicole.
