Yellow-browed or Pallas’s leaf warbler? (Sound ID)

True, but all of them on the Black Sea coast, I think?

Yellow-browed or Pallas’s leaf warbler? (Sound ID)

Hey, everyone! I’d appreciate your opinion on a warbler I saw today in Sofia, Bulgaria. I observed it from a close distance for about 6-7 minutes. It had a very prominent supercilium, two wing bars (one bigger, one smaller) and the very white belly. I initially identified it as a Yellow-browed...

ID of this jaeger/skua - Bulgaria, September 2022

Hey, everyone! Friends of mine saw this bird at Pchelina Reservoir in Southwestern Bulgaria about a week ago. They assumed it immediately as Parasitic Jaeger / Arctic Skua, but it could be a different species just as well. Any opinions?

Moorhen with yellow beak, London WWT

We saw a Moorhen like that at the WWT London Wetland Centre today :-)

The enduring allure of the 7x50 Porro

There is definitely softness in the edges, but I guess it's to be expected for the price. I have also looked through the Nikons but for some reason they give me a bit of a headache while panning... ¯\(ツ)/¯ Otherwise, the view is similar.

The enduring allure of the 7x50 Porro

More of a 7x35 than 7x50, but lots of love and affection for this fella - cheap, well built and with a great view for the price 7x35 DPS I - Standard Binoculars - Olympus

    Nuthatch ID? (Bulgaria)

Hi there! This morning I had an interesting observation around Ihtiman, Bulgaria - would be great to hear opinions on the bird in question. I was birding on a dry hill covered with grass and small bushes around it when I heard a sound very similar to this one. It caught my attention because...

    Top Porro Prism Bins?

This Olympus 7x35 DPS i is a really nice surprise - quite cheap, but very, very good for the price. Giant FOV, sharp image, comfortable to hold. The rubber cups fold almost all the way down, so it should be OK for glasses. You almost never use the focus wheel - usually it keeps good focus from...

NL Pure 8x32 and NL Pure 10x32!

Can you share your comparisons of 10x42 and 10x32? Would be very interested to know how these two hold against each other :-)

NL Pure 8x32 and NL Pure 10x32!

At the same time, the 10x32 has an identical FOV to the 10x42. Which makes it the more attractive of the two x32 models, in my opinion.

❓ Common or Lesser kestrel? (Bulgaria)

Hi, everyone! I would appreciate your opinion on this bird, observed at Bessaparski Hills in Bulgaria in September 2019. There were lots of Common kestrels around, but this one caught my attention. Could it be a Lesser kestrel? Thanks!

Best scope to buy for this price range?

Thanks a lot for the suggestions, Joachim! So an 82mm would be the best option in your opinion? Because Swarovski ATS 65 HD & 25-50X 8631 eyepiece combo also fits the bill at around 2,5 k. Would a Zeiss Conquest Gavia 85 30-60x85 also be an option? Or a Kowa TSN-773 77mm?

Best scope to buy for this price range?

Hi, everyone - and Happy New 2021! I would appreciate your advice on buying a spotting scope (body+eyepiece together) in the following price range: 2000-2500 USD (or 1500-2000 EUR, or 1400-1800 GBP). What would be the best option?

Narrow vs. wide FOV - "feeling" the difference

I was birdwatching the other day with my cheap and cheerful Olympus 7x35 (9.3 FOV) and suddenly felt the difference between binoculars with narrower and wider field of view. I would describe it as follows: With a narrow FOV you "move the bird towards you", i.e. there is a distinct feeling of...

    Binoculars by "non-binoculars" brands

    Raptor ID (Bulgaria)

Hi, everyone! Would like to hear your thoughts about this raptor. Seen this weekend in Kresna Gorge, Southwestern Bulgaria. All three images are of the same bird, just with different brightness and contrast levels. Thanks.

Here are enlarged versions of the two most "interesting" photos, IMO, of the first and the second bird:

Bird on a rock ID (close to Sofia, Bulgaria)

Just for the sake of comparison, here's some photos of a black redstart I saw in the same location a couple of days later and shot from the same distance. Its behaviour was different from the calmer disposition of the ID bird in the original post - much more erratic and "nervous" (typical...

Bird on a rock ID (close to Sofia, Bulgaria)

Any thoughts about this bird? Perched high on a group of steep rocks in a rural area next to a river. Close to Sofia, Bulgaria. Shots taken from approx. 250 m., do have that in mind :-) Thanks!
