What did you see in your binoculars today?

This morning a short-toed Eagle passed over my house and I was able to observe it with my Aurora. It is the twelfth species of raptor I have seen from my garden

What did you see in your binoculars today?

Today I did an hour's observation around my house with my Aurora 8x42. I saw a female kestrel, 3 buzzards, a sparrowhawk, an adult male goshawk and a kite (Red kite I think)

What did you see in your binoculars today?

Yesterday, since it wasn't raining, I put my daughter to sleep by taking a pram ride and then went for a bike ride on the mountain above the house. I saw many buzzards including a group of 12 in migration two sparrow hawks a goshawk a young golden eagle and two milvus, milvus milvus I think.

What did you see in your binoculars today?

I really don't have time for birdwatching lately. Today after several days of rain some sun came out and I went out with the pram to put my youngest daughter to sleep. In a quarter of an hour, in addition to the local buzzards, I saw seven migrating buzzards, three golden eagles, one of which...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

Yesterday for the first time I saw a dipper swimming and diving in the waters of a lake. I had never seen this behaviour before. Before I looked through the binoculars I thought it was a Little grebe.

What did you see in your binoculars today?

Yesterday morning I took a ride up the mountain above where I live. There was some snow and the valley was covered with clouds reflecting the sun so the birds in flight looked very clear. I saw a migrating osprey that looked all white and a female peregrine that looked like a gyrfalcon. The...

Two questions from Trondheim, Norway, Sept 15: Sprawk or Goshawk? and which 1C "Comic" tern?

The tail has a wide base and the corners are rounded. The protruding secondaries are also goshawk-like. I wouldn't bet the house on it though....

Two questions from Trondheim, Norway, Sept 15: Sprawk or Goshawk? and which 1C "Comic" tern?

Although the view is not the best, it is a goshawk because : massive body, fairly long wings and longer arm than in sparrowhawks, protruding head, tail with rounded corners

    Falcons from the Aeolian islands

Also for me 1-2 Eleonora's falcon and 3- 4 peregrine. Eleonora's falcons use passerines migrating south as food. That is why they are the raptors that nest the later.

What did you see in your binoculars today?

Today on my way out of the office I saw a short-toed eagle-owl flying over the area and I was able to watch it for a couple of minutes. In my area it is quite a rare species. Impossible for me not to have binoculars in the car....

Opticron Aurora 8x42 vs alpha(ish) 8x42s - anything given away in optical quality?

The problem is that we cannot know the cost of the components by looking at the final price. Included in the price is service (Swaro's is 5-star) the cost of design and branding. Then the production costs vary depending on the country. I am convinced that there are better binoculars than Aurora...

Opticron Aurora 8x42 vs alpha(ish) 8x42s - anything given away in optical quality?

I am not interested in being controversial, but I would like to make a clarification. I think it is often true that in optics you get what you pay for, but I confirm that my El (1440 euro in 2006) has visibly more Ca and more glare than my Aurora (980 in 2022). Simply looking at prices does not...

I am not an optics reviewer, but Aurora's advantage is obvious to me...

Opticron Aurora 8x42 vs alpha(ish) 8x42s - anything given away in optical quality?

I speak for what I see and what I have seen several times during the comparisons I have made. My El is the first model, it is possible that later ones will be better... By the way it has recently been in service so it is as good as new

Opticron Aurora 8x42 vs alpha(ish) 8x42s - anything given away in optical quality?

Today after months of exclusive use of the Aurora 8x42 I used my El 10x42 again, here is what I noticed: The weight is heavier and it is noticeable, the fov and afov appear narrower and 'glare is a bit greater (Aurora controls this very well). Overall the opticron is definitely more pleasant for me

Opticron Aurora 8x42 vs alpha(ish) 8x42s - anything given away in optical quality?

My 8x42 also has an unexceptional focuser, but I find the ergonomics and optics excellent. I am no longer using my El 10x42

What did you see in your binoculars today?

Earlier, just as I was leaving the office, I saw a hoopoe fly and perch on a tree. I took my Verano from the car and watched it for a while. It is a wonderful bird!

Raptor survey as a work, what kind of bins?

I too collaborate on a raptor census every year. And to count them you first have to find them by scanning the sky for many hours. For me, fov and ergonomics are fundamental. A good 8 x 32 or 8 x 42 I think are perfect. I also have a 10 x 42 but I don't find it very useful.

What did you see in your binoculars today?

Today I spent all day in the garden because I had various jobs to do. Of course I always had my binoculars close by. Among the birds of prey I saw many buzzards a golden eagle a kestrel a quick pass of a goshawk and a swoop of a young peregrine.

Quick & dirty review of 8x42 Opticron Aurora.

It's just not very fluid. It's similar to my El.

Quick & dirty review of 8x42 Opticron Aurora.

I too continue to be very happy with my Aurora 8x42. I am happy whenever I can use it. The only negative thing about my bino is a focuser that is not exceptional but gives me no problems when birdwatching

    Goshawks

Finally, I am almost certain I have found a nesting site of the goshawks. Surprisingly, it is a small patch of forest surrounded by meadows and very close to houses. I was amazed because they would have a much quieter mountainside. Perhaps like other species, they are getting closer to...
