    A French moth for ID

I photographed this moth in Burgundy, central France, last July. I have an idea that it might be Scoparia ambigualis but I'm not at all certain. Can anyone confirm the ID for me, please? Thank you.

    Scopariinae?

This looks to me like one of the Scopariinae sub-family, possibly Eudonia, even E. mercurella, but there are several similar moths and specific identification could be difficult. Can anyone confirm my thinking on this one, please?

    Juvenile Bee, central France.

Can anyone help with an ID for this short-winged bee, presumably a juvenile, please? Many thanks in advance.

    Wasp?, South Florida

I took this photo of what I believe is a wasp whilst on holiday close to Delray Beach in Florida. Can anyone tell me whether it is a wasp and what species it could be, please?

    Bumblebee, central France.

I have tried to ID this bumblebee but so far have had no luck. Bombus campestris is the nearest I can find but I don't think it's that. Can anyone help me, please? Thanks.

    Wasp ?, central France

I think this is a wasp, possibly from the Ichneumonidae family but don't know any more than that. Can anyone help with the ID, please? Thanks.

    Cuckoo Bee, central France

I think this is a cuckoo bee, probably of the Psithyrus subgenus of .bombus. It has been suggested that it is P. Vestalis, but I'm not sure. Can you help, please? Thanks

Western or Mountain Bluebird, Napa Valley, CA

I can't make up my mind whether this is a female drab adult Western bluebird or a female gray adult Mountain Bluebird. Can anyone tell me which one it is, please? Thanks.

    Florida Lizard

I took this photograph of a lizard in the Coral Gables area of eastern FL recently and although it looks similar to the endangered Florida Scrub Lizard with its dark side stripes I don't think I'm that lucky. On the other hand I can't seem to find any other lizard with similar stripes and...

    Displaying Egret at Wakodahachee, Florida

I took this photo of two Egrets during apparent courtship displays. The one on the right appears to be a Cattle Egret but the one on the left has a black bill and pink lores, which may be a Snowy Egret but I am puzzled that the lores are not yellow. Is it not a Snowy Egret after all?

    Hawk, Tallassee, north Florida

I am not at all sure about this one but it looks like Broad-winged to my inexperienced eyes. Am I close? BTW this shot had to be lightened and colour intensified because it was taken through trees on a darkish day.

    Unidentified sparrow, south Florida

This photo was taken in the Delray Beach area, Florida. Can anyone help with the ID please? Thanks.

    Western Bluebird, San Ramon, CA

I think this could be a male Western Bluebird since there seems to be a hint of orange on the breast and shoulder. The whitish colour on the crown may be reflection from the sun. Confirmation or otherwise of this ID would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Herring Gull, Bodega Bay, CA?

I know little about gulls but I thought this was a Herring Gull until I saw that the bill appears to be deep orange with a yellow tip and there is a suggestion of a red orbital eye-ring. All other points seem to match Herring: pink legs, four distinctive white wing spots, clean white head, grey...

Lesser or Greater Scaup, Bodega Bay, northern CA.

I am not sure which of the two Scaups this one is but I think it's Lesser. Am I correct? Thanks for your help.

    Another sparrow, northern CA

At first I thought this was a Savannah Sparrow because it was seen immediately after and in the same area as the SS ID'd a couple of days ago (see earlier thread). However, on closer inspection, this one appears to have a stubbier, darker bill and little or no supercilium, although the breast...

    House Wren, Napa Valley

I took this photo in the grounds of a vineyard in Napa Valley, California. I think it is a House Wren but it would be good to have this confirmed, or otherwise. Many thanks for your help.

    Sparrow, northern California

This photo was taken at San Ramon in Contra Costa County but my knowledge of North American sparrows is rather limited. Can someone ID this for me, please? Thanks in advance.

Northern California bird - ID needed

I am on holiday in northern California right now and today I took this photo at Calistoga in the Napa Valley. Unfortunately, at the time I only had the basic lens on my camera and so the picture is not as good as I would have liked. The back of the bird had a hint of blue and, apart from the...
