Swarovski ATX-115: Star-test and Resolution Measurements

I have this scope and my early opinion is that it is superb, especially when used in low light. I used it a couple of nights ago, well after dusk and it looked like I was out in daylight. A few people looked through the scope and they couldn't believe how much of a difference it made. I was also...

HELP found a sickly Scops Owl!

You should be OK feeding the raw beef and chicken as long as it doesn't contain any preservatives or any other additives. Owls are less able to dissolve bones and pellets often contain near complete skeletons. I would say you're doing everything you can under the circumstances. If the owl...

    Osprey's in Scottish Borders

That looks good. One point I would make is that you have two half days, early and late. I couldn't see what the times were for each session.

It might be worth keeping your prices down to start with to get a few people in and talking about you.

    Osprey's in Scottish Borders

Good luck with your potential venture. We need projects like this to put more of a financial value on our wildlife because some people look at nothing else, as could be seen during the recent driven grouse shooting debate. One thing to remember when you're doing a feasibility study, you'll not...

Golden Eagles in the Lake district

They seem to be struggling but that could just be that the terrain is making it difficult to monitor them, ironically they may need more people seeing and reporting them. I'm sure at least 3 have been shot while others have left the area. The birds seem to have bred later than with other...

Golden Eagles in the Lake district

I'm not claiming that walkers are the problem and I agree with you regarding the benefits of having eyes in these places. My comment was totally to do with a specific post in this thread which I should have quoted.

Golden Eagles in the Lake district

The argument that there are so many(still not as many as there should be) golden eagles in Scotland isn't a positive for our situation, it makes our situation worse because we have no excuse. The argument is the same as we're hearing in the North East with our kites, they don't seem to matter...

Golden Eagles in the Lake district

I find it incredible that anybody could seriously think a right to roam everywhere at all times is more important than the survival of a species in our country. I spend a lot of time in the Lakes and would gladly stay away from any area if it meant the survival of any species of animal or...

new camera user - please help

It might also help if you say which camera you have, you might get some tips specific to that camera and it's settings. They're not usually optimised straight out of the box.

new petition re driven grouse shooting

We don't have to lose curlews or other waders breeding grounds, deflect some of the money that goes to farmers to actually produce uplands which aren't managed to allow people to kill for fun. Already £billions go to farmers, take some of that from them and spend the money to improve the...

new petition re driven grouse shooting

We need to protect our wildlife and that's why I signed the petition, I did it in the hope that future generations don't have to wait 20 or 30 years before seeing specific wildlife. It's easier for you to see hen harriers in Scotland than it is for us in England but don't take that for granted.

new petition re driven grouse shooting

I haven't fished for years, when I did fish I enjoyed the wildlife at least as much as the fishing. My best day ever fishing was the first time that I was able to watch an Osprey which wasn't on TV or a photograph. That day will live with me forever as it was probably 25 years ago and they...

Another golden eagle goes missing near a grouse moor, it's almost relentless https://raptorpersecutionscotland.wordpress.com/2016/08/11/young-golden-eagles-disappearing-on-grouse-moors-in-scottish-highlands/

new petition re driven grouse shooting

I hope that Mark, Chris and others are working on what to do once the 100k is reached because I think it's almost certain to now. The next step should probably be to get people contacting their MP's to ensure that they are well informed ready for the probable debate.

new petition re driven grouse shooting

I guess the shooters are starting to understand what it feels like to be a Hen Harrier or a grouse, the petition looks like it is going to get very close to the required 100k and it could even reach that figure. One option for them would have been to try and get their house in order, the other...

new petition re driven grouse shooting

I wasn't name calling, I was describing an act, not a person, I'm now guessing that maybe Adam W is a shooter? Sadistic (The deriving of pleasure, or the tendency to derive pleasure, from cruelty) and barbaric (Savagely cruel) are both fitting. The grouse are flushed by beaters and driven...

new petition re driven grouse shooting

Normal service for the grouse shooting industry is to bury their heads while the illegal killing of birds of prey is rife. Only having 3 pairs of hen harriers in the whole of England suggests that the problem isn't only down to a "few bad eggs" as is often claimed to be the case. If it was...

new petition re driven grouse shooting

They could use the subsidies we, the taxpayer pays, to keep the moors as they are and perhaps encourage wildlife tourism. Some of the moors should be returned to forests though as they look awful. I have described it as I see it, both words used are factual and fit well when describing people...

new petition re driven grouse shooting

I look forward to a day when Driven Grouse Shooting has ended, the quicker the better. The shooters can't get their house in order so banning it is the only way to protect our currently persecuted wildlife. 3 pairs of Hen Harriers when we have enough habitat to provide territories for more...

    Canon 80D?

So far the 80D is looking good and I haven't really set it up the way that I want it yet. The attached has much more detail under the wings than when shot and before I tried to recover the detail. It's without doubt an upgrade on the 70D and quite a good one with this type of photograph when...

    Canon 80D?

I'm upgrading from 70D to 80D and should have the new camera tomorrow. The choice between 7D2 and 80D was tough but from what I've read the 80D has superior dynamic range and that won me over.
