    thanks for the help guys. red-winged blackbird makes sense, there was an adult nearby. @ovenbird43, just searched brown-headed cowbird and found an image of a female that is exactly spot-on for what I saw... so another lifer added to the list :) loving the bird life in NY

    have been up edmundbuyers four times in the last couple of weeks hoping to catch ring ouzel at their usual spot with no luck. didn't see any up there last year either. has anybody had any luck with them in this area or have they vacated?

    Big Sparrowhawks ...worth keeping your eyes open around the cramlington area also. as my mate and me discovered on our way up to druridge on saturday :) cracking afternoon at harwood today. no raptors of note this time but the shrike was showing superbly.

    Blue Headed Wagtail still with the Yellow Wagtails at Whittledene, Red Kite over South Wylam, the Pallas's Warbler showing superbly down to about 5ft in bushes either side of the hide at Swallow Pond this evening, redhead Smew still at Creswell and the Barn Owl also put in an appearance.

    Smew Thanks Alan, it was for me Mam and thankfully she found it, still with the gooseanders but down river near the water treatment works although as soon as she found it it flew back upstream to Prudhoe bridge. Typically I'm in London when my favourite bird is on my doorstep!
