    Your most anticipated futures books

It is odd that the publication date keeps being pushed foward as this book was pretty much done for publication as far as aim aware? maybe they decided to do some last minute changes. NHBS list it as due in July http://www.nhbs.com/title/204692?title=birds-of-new-guinea

Venezuela - Ascanio, Rodriguez and Restall

I got a dispatch note today of my pre-ordered copy. Looking at NHBS I think the plates are of decent quailty http://www.nhbs.com/title/210297/birds-of-venezuela

    Undescribed

A number of potentially undescribed subspecies recently found in the Nanusa Archipelago (situated north-east of Karakelong), Talaud. This include a Pitta said to be different from mainland Talaud as well as possibly new subspecies of Island Whistler, Red-necked Crake and Lemon-bellied White-Eye...

    Birds of Bolivia

Everything is relative I guess. I usually end up paying way beyond that for postage when buying books from Europe or the USA. As such it seems odd to me that they keep bringing up the cost of postage as that is surely up to the buyer? I have placed an pre-order with Buteo Books as they have...

    Your most anticipated futures books

Yes it's that one. I also question the need for yet another Australian field guide whilst acknowledging that books from CSIRO Publishing tends to be of top quality (also tends to be very expensive).

    Your most anticipated futures books

Aim very much looking forward to the New Guinea guide by Phil Gregory as well as the new field guide to Venezuela.

Best bird guides by region...Central and South America

It would seem that publication of the Peterson Field Guide to Birds of Northern Central America is imminent. I have not seen any of the plates or species accounts featured in this book but it will surely be a welcome update to Howell (1995).

    The last post...

I can only echo what many others have already said. I have always found your posts here in the taxonomy section be very interesting and thorough and it is the main reason why aim still visiting BF pretty much daily. It will feel very empty here without you and aim sad to hear about your health...

    Red-bellied Pitta

That's great to hear. It would seem it is also present on the island of Tahulandang http://www.hbw.com/species/red-bellied-pitta-pitta-erythrogaster. Not to stray off topic but do you know if any progress have been made in the search of the Siau Scops-owl? There have been a number of surveys in...

    Bird of New Guinea

Today my copy of Beehler & Pratt 2016 arrived and I found it to be thoroughly excellent as it's long overdue that a work like this was published for this region It's most definitely a contender for "best bird book of 2016" for me:t:

    Red-bellied Pitta

I think it's interesting to note that they choose to treat Sula Pitta (E dohertyi) as an distinct species in this paper whilst recent voice recordings have suggested that it may not be distinct enough from birds on Sulawesi to be treated as such. Also does anyone know if there is any recent...

    Best bird guides by region...Asia

I would say your best alternative would be to borrow or trying to find a reasonably cheap copy of "A Guide to the Birds of Wallacea: Sulawesi, the Moluccas and Lesser Sunda Islands, Indonesia" by Coates and Bishop (1997)...

    Best bird guides by region...Asia

I very much doubt that you will find either Myers or Phillipps Borneo guides useful for the Lesser Sundas as apart from migrants they share very few species.

    Best bird guides by region...Asia

There is a second edition of Birds of Borneo by Susan Myers. http://www.nhbs.com/title/207100/birds-of-borneo?bkfno=225725

    field guide for Fiji?

There is unfortunately no good field guides for Fiji available and none is being worked on as far as aim aware. I would say depending on where in Fiji your going you are probably best off looking through some trip reports (http://www.cloudbirders.com/tripreport).

    Bloomsbury/Helm guides

This is another promising Helm title due for publication shortly.

    Robins and Chats

My pre-order was dispatched today and based on the few sample pages I have seen this book looks VERY promising.

    Birds of Honduras

It would seem Robert Gallardo's new field guide to the birds of Honduras is finally out. I believe NHBS is the only ones with copies in stock but Buteo Books expects stock to arrive in mid-August. https://www.nhbs.com/title/202529/guide-to-the-birds-of-honduras?bkfno=219850...

Monograph of Australian pigeons and doves

I was down in Melbourne on business last week and took the opportunity to pick up a copy signed by both Forshaw and Cooper from Andrew Isles. It's a expensive book for sure but the amazing artwork by William T Cooper makes it worth the price alone. http://www.andrewisles.com/

    Bird of New Guinea

It would seem the preliminary publication date for the field guide by Phil Gregory is the end of this year. http://www.nhbs.com/title/204692/lynx-field-guide-to-the-birds-of-new-guinea

    Undescribed

It looks like the identity of the oliveback population discovered in Angola a few years ago have now been confirmed as representing quite a significant range extension for the White-collared Oliveback (Nesocharis ansorgei). In January 2014 another population was apparently discovered in...

    Gurney’s Pitta

Sounds like a rumour started by people with dubious interests in this area, the last few pairs in Thailand were well known to the local birding community.

Field Guide to the Birds of Colombia: Second Edition

Aim pretty sure the limited print run is the main problem. I bought my copy from this seller last year and he still have a few copies in stock. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Field-Colombia-Thomas-Donegan-McMullan/dp/0982761554/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1426083252&sr=8-3&keywords=birds+of+colombia

    Omani Owl

Kirwan et al. 2015. Multiple lines of evidence confirm that Hume’s Owl Strix butleri (A. O. Hume, 1878) is two species, with description of an unnamed species (Aves: Non-Passeriformes: Strigidae). Zootaxa 3904 (1): 028–050. http://www.mapress.com/zootaxa/2015/f/z03904p050f.pdf
