Will Retrovid 8x40 leather case fit an ultravid HD 7x42?

My UV 7x42 fits nicely into my Retrovid 8x40 case, with the padded Leica strap feeding out through the horizontal slot on the back of the case. I think it looks good and works well.

Swarovski NL 8x32 vs Leica Duovid 8+12x42 Brightness Mystery

I might have missed it, but nowhere in this thread did I see a statement that "all other things being equal (i.e., same magnification, same optical configuration), a 42 is NOT brighter than a 32; the 42 it will produce a larger-diameter exit pupil, but as long as the exit pupils of both units...

    Zeiss 7 x 45B T*P Night Owl Field Cutter

A superb bino; big and heavy, but a beautiful view. Mine had some dust or haze in the right-side eyepiece, but Zeiss-US cleaned it and made it perfect again.

    Leica Classic ('Retrovid') Trinovid question

Yes, a lens behind the objectives can be seen to move when operating the focusing mechanism.

    Ultravid/Uvplus 10x32

I just checked mine: with the diopter adjustment set to zero, the 8x32 focus knob has about 45 deg. of cw motion past infinity while the 10x32 has about 35 deg. Both are UVHD+, and although I wear glasses my distance correction is zero diopters. My understanding is that the UV focus mechanism...

Ultravid UVHD Plus 8x32 or 10x32?

As a former short-sighted glasses wearer (now 20/20 and non-astigmatic, post cataract surgery) who has both UV32s, I can say that the effective eye relief with both the 10x and 8x is the same for me with my close-fitting metal eyeglass frames. If there is a 0.1mm difference, I'm unable to...

    Duovid Optical Construction

Actually, I was surprised by the result when I compared my 42 Duo at 12x and my HD+10x32: the Duo shows less lateral CA in the outermost portion of the field than the 10x32, though of course the 10x32's AOV is larger (67.0* vs. 61.2* [60.7* vs. 56.2* ISO]).

    Duovid Optical Construction

I have the same Leica binos you mention, plus a 42 Duovid. The Duo is a lot of fun, and quite competent for what it is, but a fair comparison with the others will reveal a few shortcomings: eye relief, weight, and FOV just to name a few. The center-field images are fine, but there is noticeable...

    Zeiss BGAT* P v Leica Ultravid HD+ 7x42

I have both binos, and in my opinion you can't go wrong with either. The UV is more compact and rugged, and waterproof. I chose to buy my UVHD+ after comparing it side-by-side with my BGAT; the UV was able pull more detail out of the shadows, though it was a close contest. I also have the FL...

    Night Owls refurbs?

I have a 7x45 Night Owl that showed some internal haze in one eyepiece when I acquired it (used), though all the exterior optical surfaces were perfect. Zeiss USA serviced it without charge and returned it in super shape. It's heavy, but it's a superb bino that can hold its own against any 7x...

    8x32 UVHD+ vs 7x35 Retrovid

I have both and they're two of my favorites. For me, the 8x32 UVHD is slightly more compact and portable, and it's armored and waterproof. The 7x35 has a slightly easier view, a larger exit pupil, and longer eye relief (I wear glasses). I would be hard-pressed to decide between them if I had to...

Leica Hdplus 7x42 vs Trinovid 7x35

The 7x35 eyecups have two intermediate positions, and they stay in place for me. I wear eyeglasses most of the time but occasionally take them off to get a more immersive view. Eyecup diameter is about 33mm, which is smaller than many current binos, but they work well for me.

Leica Hdplus 7x42 vs Trinovid 7x35

I have them both here, one in each hand. Focusing on the most distant and detailed target I can find, I cannot discern a difference in their views; they are equal, and superb, in my opinion. Intentionally looking for lateral CA at the edge of the field, I can see that the purple and green edges...

Leica Hdplus 7x42 vs Trinovid 7x35

I have both, and in my opinion the HD+ is a bit better than the Trinovid. But just a bit - given its price point, I think the new Trinovid is a screaming bargain, and well worth consideration by anyone interested in an alpha 7x. Bright, clear, compact, and it has the "Leica view".

    Old Leitz binoculars

I don't think that's correct. If you follow the light path in the cutaway image Henry posted, you'll see that both the entrance and exit faces are also total internal reflection surfaces, so the challenge of optimizing the anti-reflection coatings is present in the Uppendahl system as well.

Leica Pocket like all purpose bino?

I respectfully disagree. When I was young and my eyesight was better, I spent several years in a "minimalist" phase, where I did serious birding carrying only a Zeiss Classic 10x25 binocular; no field guide, no electronics, no scope, nothing else. It did require some effort and practice to get...

Retrovid 7X35 a viable birding binocular?

I believe the 16 mm figure; with my thin-frame eyeglasses I generally need 14-15 mm of eye relief to see the entire field of view of a bino, and with the Leica 7x35 and the eye-cups down I can get blackouts if my eye-placement isn't perfect. I put a 1.6 mm o-ring under each eye-cup to lift them...

Ultravid HD+ - Any changes in the overdrive past infinity?

I believe the OP's original question did not relate to any diopter difference between the barrels, but rather how far past infinity the bino can focus with the diopter correction set to zero. Please correct me if I misunderstood.

Ultravid HD+ - Any changes in the overdrive past infinity?

Both my 7x42 and 8x42 UV HD+ appear to go at least 7 diopters past infinity. I can't be certain, since the scales are only marked to 4, and I don't know if they are linear beyond that point, but my guess is that either one would easily accommodate your -5.5 diopter requirement. If you could find...

Swarovski 8x25 CL vs Zeiss 8x25 Victory Pocket

As long as the ambient light level is high enough (daylight, typically) that your pupils contract to 2.5mm or smaller, you will not perceive either the 8x or the 10x as being brighter or darker than the other; once the light level drops below that point, the 3.1 mm exit pupil of the 8x25 will...

    7/8x42 ultravid hd+ vs swarovski el42?

Short answer: yes, in my opinion. For me, the important question is: how do you feel about flat-field vs. curved-field binos? If the distinction is important to you, then the decision is easy; if it's not, then it's not. I strongly prefer curved-field binos, so my favorites are mostly all Leica...

    Ultravid 42mm rainguard replacement

The Swarovski "Silent Rubber Rainguard" is expensive, but it's a perfect fit for 42mm Leica UV, 42mm EDG, 32mm Vortex Viper, 42mm Swarovski NEU, 42mm Swarovski EL WB (pre-SV, pre-FP), Zeiss 7x42 B/GAT, and others. Easy on/off, quiet, safe. I've collected a bunch of them over the years. It's as...

    Leica 8 x 32 Ultravid HD plus

I view with glasses also, and the 8x32 UV has just enough eye relief for me to see the entire field; but I have thin metal eyeglass frames, with adjustable bridge rests, and they sit close to my face. A heavy plastic frame with thick lenses would probably prevent most users from seeing the...
