    Canon EOS 1000D

It's a long journey that you have started. Just take it one day at a time. I would read Understanding Exposure and Understanding Photography Field Guide, both by Bryan Peterson. You will learn a ton of useful stuff from those two books alone. Keep asking questions and take zillions of pictures...

I had looked this little guy up when I shot the photo last summer but now cannot find the info. Anyway, he was a fuzzy little fellow and quite unusual.

What is a nice cheap camera for making pics ?

Well, one idea is if you can find a used Canon 20D, 30D or 40D and a 70-200 f4 lens or something similar you could get some excellent shots. There actually are cheaper lenses with more reach but I am not sure what the numbers are off the top my head. But the 70-200 is available for around $400...

    Been Away for Awhile

Hi all. I've been away for a year but intend to spend a bit more time here again. I've taken up photography this past year and have some big Canon glass on the way which I plan to use a lot in the coming years. Western MA has some wonderful habitat to explore and I can't wait to get back out...

    Today at the feeder

No shortage of the tufted titmice here either. We always have up to 4 per day. This week I saw the titmice, chickadees, a flock of about 20 goldfinches, juncos, mourning doves (first year they've shown up), 3 downy woodpeckers, a blue jay, white breasted nuthatch. No red breasted nuthatches this...

    Your feeder favorite?

I have several favorites too. The Chickadees and titmice are always fun to watch and are fairly fearless as others have pointed out. I like both the white and red breasted nuthatches who always show up, usually pointing downward as they cling to the tree bark. My absolute favorite though would...

Finally - Great views of the Pileated Woodpecker

They are very cool birds. I have twice seen one out of my home office window, perched on a dead tree that's across the yard. They are majestic creatures and remind me of some kind of prehistoric birds.

Thanks for the welcome KC! :) Yes, it is miserable here this week. Hopefully will thaw a bit for Christmas.

Do you got "snake games" in your contry?

These populations of rattlesnakes have a way of regenerating themselves anyway. If they perceive less competition they will simply adjust and have more babies. It is futile for people to kill them thinking they are cutting down on the population not to mention a stupid thing to do.

Hello everyone! Looks like the right place...

Just found these forums and looking forward to checking things out, asking a few questions and maybe making some new friends. Over the years I've gone in and out of wildlife pursuits and it will be good to get back into it this year.
