    Mew Gull in Connecticut?

I saw this gull while birding at Hammonasset Beach State Park. It looks like a first summer Mew Gull to me. But when I check the range maps for CT it would be a rare bird for the state.

Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas Birds

Just got home from a Disney Cruise to Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas. I've been able to ID most of my photos but I need help and/or confirmation on a few of them. 1) I'm pretty sure this is an Orange-fronted Parakeet.

Just returned from an Alaska Cruise. These gulls were photographed in Canadian or Alaskan (Inside Passage) waters. This gull has me stumped. Truth be told most of them have me stumped. LOL Thayer's Gull?

Movie "Rio" bird ID - Blue Macaw?

I was talking to someone about the movie "Rio" and the birds in it. She asked me if I knew what kind of bird the lead character (Blu) in the movie was. I told her a made-up bird that doesn't really exist. She said no he is a Blue Macaw. Since I don't know much about the parrots of the world...

    San Francisco in July

I'm headed to San Francisco this weekend (July 9 -11) to see Paul McCartney in concert. I only have the morning and early afternoon on Saturday to try and squeeze in some birding. My main target bird is the Chestnut-backed Chickadee. Other targets would be Hutton's Vireo, Northern Saw-whet...

ID from bad photo - Arcadia CA USA

Went out in search of a Blackpoll Warbler and Nothern Waterthrush that had been reported yesterday in a local hot spot. I ran into two other birders who were hoping for the same RBA birds. One of the guys spotted what we are fairly sure was the Blackpoll Warbler. I was only able to get this...

Mystery Desert bird #4 - Eastern Sierras, CA

Last one. Again Jawbone Canyon. I think this might be the same species as Mystery bird #3. But this bird looks a little to big for a sparrow. ??? Sorry the photos suck, but these birds were more then a little shy about having their pictures taken.

Mystery Desert bird #3 - Eastern Sierras, CA

Another Jawbone Canyon area bird. Sage Sparrow again??

Mystery Desert bird #2 - Eastern Sierras, CA

These shots absolutely suck. This bird was very hard to sneak up on and always stayed in the shade. I'm hoping some one can make an id based on the silouette. I'm thinking this is a thrasher. Based on the straight bill I'm leaning towards Bendire's but the habitat was more suitable to...

Mystery Desert bird #1 - Eastern Sierras, CA

OK now for the really awful photos. LOL One and only shot I got of this bird. I suspect this is another Sage Sparrow.

Desert Sparrow #6 - Eastern Sierras, CA

Another Jawbone Canyon/Robbers Roost bird. I only got these two bad shots. Some kind of sparrow. This one I won't even hazard a guess on. Any ideas?

Desert Sparrow #5 - Eastern Sierras, CA

This bird was seen in the Jawbone Canyon area near Robbers Roost. This is the one and only shot I got. It sucks. I think this might also be a Sage Sparrow.

Desert Sparrow #4 - Eastern Sierras, CA

These are some pretty aweful photos. This little guy was across a ravine so he was just out of focus range. These were taken in the Jawbone Canyon area near Robbers Roost in So Cal. I think this is a Sage Sparrow.

Desert Sparrow #3 - Eastern Sierras, CA

Again a Big Pine sparrow. This bird was in the same location as the other possible Savannah Sparrow. I don't believe this is the same bird. But I think this is also a Savannah Sparrow.

Desert Sparrow #2 - Eastern Sierras, CA

Another Big Pine sparrow. I think this is a Reddish Savannah Sparrow. These are the only shots I got before it flew off.
