    Leica UK Warranty Question

Is the warranty transferable to a new owner if you sell your binocular privately, assuming it was a genuine UK import?

    Leica Ultravids in hot car

I live in Northern Ireland, not the superheat capital of the world by any means, but we've had some hot weather recently, and the interior of cars does get very hot. I have a pair of Leica Ultravid 8x32 BR I keep in the car - in the boot, or 'trunk'. They are in a backpack with some outdoor...

Swarovski Habicht ‑ Question about Waterproofing

How is it possible to fill these binoculars with nitrogen and guarantee waterproofing with external focusing? My guess is that the main body of the binocular is indeed sealed, but the eyepieces are only water resistant and prone to water ingress. Any more informed opinions?

    NEW Leica Ultravid HD+ 7x32

This binocular would surely sell like hot cakes, so why doesn't Leica make one? Or even a 7x35. Is it for technical reasons or the presumption that they wouldn't be popular? I'm hoping Leica might look in on this thread if we can show strong support for the idea. ;) PS Sorry for the thread...

When a Leica Ultravid HD+ Replacement?

Any ideas? The Ultravid is getting a bit old and lacking in innovation. The old Trinovid BA/BN lasted about a decade. The Ultravid has gone on longer than that. I want to see something new from Leica. I have the Ultravid 8x32 BR and like it very much, but I want a 10x42 binocular. I don't...

Zeiss Terra ED vs Conquest HD

Big difference in price, but what are the differences in optical performance and build quality? I want a second binocular to go along with my Leica Ultravid 8x32BR but I don't have big money to spend! I want a bright, sharp image and I'm not overly concerned about CA. My Leica has a bit of CA...

Swarovski ATS HD 65 vs. Kowa TSN 603 ED

I have a Kowa, as per the thread title, bought in about 2007, and it is very good with the 20x and 30x eyepieces (it's a 60mm ED scope). I don't actually need a new scope... but I am daydreaming, and I am wondering, since I cannot compare side-by-side, if anyone can tell me what kind of...

    New Ultravid HD+ Rainguard?

Is it the same as the sticky rubber 1st generation Ultravid BR model? That rainguard was very grippy and wanted to take the eyecups off! Have they made improvements on the latest version?

New LEICA colour neoprene straps in UK?

LEICA offer some nice straps in four colours: https://en.leica-camera.com/Sport-Optics/Leica-Birding/Technical-Equipment/Sport-Optics-Technical-Equipment/Neoprene-binocular-strap Does anyone know where I can get them in the UK? You can order them from the USA but I'd rather not have to do that...

    Leica cosmetic damage

I am annoyed because, after looking after my Leica Ultravid 8x32BR for many years, a few days ago, whilst attempting to climb a gate, my binocular swung forward and bashed off the top bar of the metal tube farm gate. The binoculars have some minor scraping on the top plastic hinge plate, and...

    Nikon D7100 Question/Potential Fault

I think there might be something wrong with my D7100. Check out the attached image of the view through the VF taken with my mobile phone. I have the camera set at P mode. The picture that is taken is perfectly exposed, but the camera is showing in the viewfinder as if it is underexposed prior...

    Mystery upland raptor (Ireland)

So I was hiking in the mountains in Ireland this past weekend, and beside an upland lake surrounded by mountains, among the rocks and the heather, a raptor was 'quartering' (I am not sure if this is the right term). It looked like a small raptor. I'd like to say it was bluish, but I think that...

Leica premium scope... with only one zoom eyepiece?

What's the deal with Leica? With the original Televid 77, you had a choice of 20x Wide, 32x Wide, 40x, and a zoom eyepiece. The new 65 and 82 have one zoom eyepiece. I prefer the quality of fixed prime eyepieces. Anyone got any ideas as to why Leica offers only one eyepiece for the new scopes?

Leica Ultravid 8x20 vs. Zeiss Victory 8x20

So the difference in price is around £100. Both are waterproof, but which is the best, and why the difference in price? Anyone got any experience of either or both models? Also if anyone has any opinions on which is best, 8x20 or 10x25 in compacts, I'd like to hear that too. Mostly want these...

Last chance bargain on NEW Kowa TSE-14WD 30x Wide Eyepiece

I have a TSN 603 scope I bought back in 2008 or so with the 20-60x zoom lens which I later sold in favour of the excellent 20x WA. I'd had my eye on the 30x WA for a while but couldn't justify the cost. To my delight, there's a bargain clearance on now at WEX. £209. I think there might be one...

    Kowa - stock drying up?

I noticed in the UK that the major online optics dealers seem to have hardly any stock of any kowa scopes or eyepieces. This has been going on for over a year. What's going on?

    Leica Prices: 2008 Vs. 2013

In 2008, I paid £799 for a Leica 8x32BR Ultravid. In 2013, the updated model (Leica 8x32HD Ultravid) from the same supplier costs £1419. I just don't understand how manufacturers can justify this astounding price increase. In 2008, £799 was a significant amount, but it wasn't unreachable. Now...

    Leica Pricing

Has Leica lost it's mind? Leica S2-P - over £20,000. http://www.cliftoncameras.co.uk/Leica_S2-P_Digital_SLR I bought a pair of Leica Ultravid 8x32BR bins for £799 in 2008. The equivalent model is now £1300. Leica is pricing itself into oblivion! If I was looking for a good pair of bins...

    Large mystery beetle

I was wondering what kind of beetle I saw on my patio just a short while ago: a large brownish coloured beetle (about the size of the tip of your little finger - from the last joint to the finger tip), whose body ended in a large 'horn' at its rear end. It was the largest beetle I've ever seen...

    Leica Pricing

I bought a pair of Leica Ultravid 8x32BR binoculars in 2008 for £799 new in the UK. I now see that the latest version, the Leica Ultravid 8x32HD is more than £500 more expensive. This hike in prices is not only due to inflation. If I was on the market for a pair of binoculars now, I wouldn't...

    Optolyth vs. Leica/Zeiss

I am wondering how good Optolyth compact binoculars are compared to the high-end German equivalents. The Optolyth is a lot cheaper and is waterproof, so it has everything the others have except the brand image. But how does the optical quality compare? Does anyone have any experience with...
