    We heard on the local BBc West news that Philippa, Lady Scott , had died today. She was the widow of Sir Peter Scott of Slimbridge. I wrote to her last year for support with a local environmental issue, and she replied by return of post, enclosing a very generous supportive letter.

    Gulls treading the ground
