Tiny moth that refuses to open its wings...

Tiny moth for ID. Trapped last night in E. Surrey. About the size of a V-pug but obviously not that. New photo added that shows partly opened wings.

    2 Micros for ID

My elderly neighbour has recently trapped and set these 2 moths but is unable to identify them. I would be grateful if anyone can tell me what they are. Richard

    Ear Moth agg.

I trapped this Ear Moth species last night which is bigger and looks quite different to the usual oculea that I catch. The specimen will be sent off for gen. det. as I’m aware they can’t be reliably separated on external features and as this bears a passing resemblance to some Saltern Ear images...

    Mythimna species

I thought this was one of the scarcer Mythimna species but after much head scratching I’ve decided it’s probably either a female Clay (no black tuft on u/s) or an Obscure Wainscot. Any other suggestions? F/w 17mm

    Celypha cespitana

Trapped last night in Surrey where this is quite a scarce moth so if anyone can confirm the ID then I can stop worrying that it's just an odd looking C. lacunana. Richard

    Possible Northern Drab

Caught in my actinic trap last night in Nutfield Surrey. I have no idea of the current status of this moth here in Surrey. Richard

    Moth Larvae Crete

Hi, I'd be grateful if anyone can ID this larva. The photo was taken in Crete earlier in the week, I'm told the length was around 3 or 4 cm and there were quite a few larvae crossing a gravel track. Thanks, Richard

    Lacewing UK

Small (11mm) narrow-winged lacewing caught in a moth trap yesterday. Thanks, Richard

    Melanic Garden Dart?

It's the right size and I think the pectinations on the antennae look about right but I haven't looked at the hindwing and the only visible feature is the orbicular stigmata. Any opinions welcome. Richard

    Putative Ruby Tiger

Hi all, A putative Ruby Tiger was posted on the OU iSpot website yesterday and subsequently ‘agreed’ by 3 members. It isn’t the clearest photo but I think it’s more likely to be a dark red form of Neglected Rustic. If anyone can spare a minute to take a peek at the post and let me know their...

    Small Pyralid

Trapped last night. I originally thought Antigastra catalaunalis but it doest have the falcate wing shape or the striated appearance. Any ideas appreciated. Richard

    Lead-coloured Quaker

I think this is a Lead-coloured Drab but it has a slight Commony Quakery look about it, anyone care to opine? Richard

    2 micros trapped last night.

Just these 2 and a December Moth in the trap this morning. I think the first photo is Blastobasis adustella but I haven't been able to put a name to the second so any suggestions appreciated. Richard

    That old chestnut...

Chestnut or Dark Chestnut - anyone care to opine? 18mm nose to termen. Richard

    Square-spot or Dotted?

Hi, I trapped what I thought were 2 Square-spot Rustics last night but after looking a bit more closely I think this one bears more than a passing resemblance to a Dotted Rustic. I know the date is a bit late so it's probably wishful thinking but I'm hoping there's someone familiar with this...

    Possible Sandhill Rustic

Posted on iSpot 2 days ago and identified as a Flounced Rustic but with whitish reniform stigmata and the location being just a few kilometres inland from a known colony of L. nickerlii ssp. Demuthi I was hoping the photos might be good enough to make a positive ID...

    2 moths for ID

2 almost identical moths trapped last night and initially identified as Maiden’s Blush but as they looked very similar to some forms of 2nd gen. Clay Triple-lines I had a quick trawl of the internet just to reassure myself. I’ve found several photos of CTL that look very similar to mine, one on...

    Moth for ID

Hi, This moth was trapped last night in Surrey and I can't decide if it's a female Turnip Moth or a Pearly Underwing without the usual grey mohican. The size is right for either and I still have the moth if a view of the hindwing is needed. Thanks for looking, RJB

    2 Pugs

2 worn pugs that in view of the shape and few remaining markings look to me like very good candidates for Shaded Pug. No sizes unfortunately but the first was trapped on 15/07/2013 and the 2nd on 24/07/2014 and I realize now they should have been dissected but for various reasons were both...

    Maiden’s Blush (I think)

A moth trapped on 19/07/14 and presumed to be a Maiden’s Blush as it shows a ‘blush’ in the centre of the forewing. However, I recently showed the photo to someone who suggested it might be one of the other Cyclophoras so I’m posting it on here for opinions. Thanks, Richard

    Exotic Pyralid?
