First Juncos today and so many birds in my new backyard Northern NJ

Saw the first Juncos here in my new backyard this morning. Been here about a month and have resident red tails, pileated, red-bellied, hairy and downy woodpeckers. Wrens, cedar waxwings, several different warblers, which I am still learning about identifying and all the usual suspects. I am in...

I visited a mederate size lake in my neck of the woods two days in a row and on day one spotted him/her flying around, then into a tree on the other side of the lake where i lost sight. Day two, spotted the flight and followed to its perch in the tree. Neither time did it have a fish, but do you...

Northern NJ first Juncos spotted today

The last couple of days have seen the titmouse brigade and chicadees, but tonight I heard the familiar chirp and sure enouogh, there they were. I thought last year they were early, but they are even earlier this year, I think. They are one of my favorites, reminding me if Easter eggs.

Sometimes you're just on the fence about whether to catch a few rays, or fetch a few seeds.

Orange Crowned Warblers Morris County NJ USA

I saw these beautiful birds, with yellow bellies in the distance foraging around the ground at the edge of the woods on our flying field. I got closer and could make out an eye line and pale streaking on the yellow underside of the bird. Very pretty! Watched an osprey and was able to get very...

    Northern NJ strange looking Sparrow?

OK, so I have seen thousands of sparrows, but this one has been making his way here everyday with the current flock of fledglings. I have never seen a sparrow with white wing bars. When he flies you can see them it looks like a moking bird. There is also some white in the tail. I have a few kind...

New Jersey and winged things... Perfect together

Today we took a ride to Hoboken (New Jersey) and were treated to 4 fly- overs by a B-17 over the Hudson River- very cool! Sound was amazing! Then we went up the Hudson along the side roads and ended up stopping at a garage sale on River Road in Englewood. There was a park across the street and...

My first try with my D 50 and Meade ETX 90

Thanks- I will get some more pics up soon. Mocking birds make great black and white pics. Do you like your D50? I love mine, it was a hard choice to pick a camera. I had an Olympus that I got some thread on lenses for, but it was not a true SLR. I did love the camera andthe software and menus...

My first try with my D 50 and Meade ETX 90

I realize this is not true digiscoping, but it's called making what you have work. I just received the gift my husband ordered for me a couple of months ago. the t-adapter and t-ring to match the cam to the scope. I was an avid astronomer, I don't have the time to go off to darker skies these...

    Location, location, location

My feeders have resided for the last few years close to my dining room window, which is near our deck. Since my friends enjoy leaving me surprises on the deck, I decided to move the feeders. They would now be located in a more open area. I moved them in the evening and the next day new birds...

Why dog walkling is good for you

While returning from our evening walk last night (sorry didn't get a chance to post then) Up in the trees I heard a loud Grunting squwak. Turned my head, thinking it was a Canada Goose, I saw leaving from a tree a Great Blue Heron, I never saw a heron do what this one did. He flew first with...
