    Bullying!

Yesterday morning, I watched 3 Jays persistently mob a Buzzard, who had been perched quietly, minding his own business when he finally decided he'd had enough, and flew off. I could have sworn he shrugged his shoulders! Most Jays I've ever seen together at one time. David

    Red Kite Dispersion

I saw two Red Kites yesterday evening in the Peak District. There is no indigenous population of Red Kites, but we are not far from Harewood (maybe 60 - 70 miles) and a little further from Rockingham Forest. The birds I saw were full size, and seemed relatively mature, and I wondered why they...

    Early Inland Curlew??

Yesterday, I saw two Curlew at Carsington Water, (Derbyshire) which seems early for them to have moved inland. Has anyone else noted many inland waders yet? David

    Jersey in Late November

I have to be in Jersey in late November for a conference, and will have a morning to spare. Staying in St Helier, and without a car, can anyone recommend any useful sites accessible on foot or via public transport please? David S

    Scope and Tripod Carriers

Has anyone any experience of these? I had a week in Norfolk last month, and to my shame, left the scope and tripod at home because I find them too heavy to carry any distance. A walk around Cley would have been out of the question. Inevitably, I needed the scope all the time... "The Mule"...

    Warblers this season

I seem to have seen plenty of Blackap and Willow Warblers this year but very few (well one!) Chiffchaff. Has anyone else noticed this or is it restricted to my part of the Peak District?

    Pink Footed Geese

This morning, (Sunday 17th October) I saw two skeins of Pink Feet, totalling approximately 260 birds flying in a NE direction over my home patch (Bakewell in the Peak District). My question, which may sound dumb, is from where to where were they travelling? I'd have expected them to be moving in...

    Turnstones

Not exactly rarities, but I saw two immature Turnstone among 6 Redshank at South Shore, Flamborough last Saurday, (14th August). I'm no expert, but I would have thought they were quite unusual for this time of year? David S

    Microwave (?) Masts

I was aked a question today, to which I've no ready answer, and wondered if anyone else had! Does the presence of microwave masts, or mobile phnoe masts have any effect on local bird populations? The enquirer had a well visited garden, with feeders being regularly used, until the erection of a...

    Avocets and Redshank

I hope this is the correct place for this query. I visited Blacktoft Sands yesterday, (and missed the Bluethroat!) One of the lagoons contained 8 adult Avocets, and a number of young, who were swimming around, some distance away form the adults. Apart from a solitary Shelduck, nothing else was...
