    Focuser issues

That happened with my SW , I disassembled focuser and found cracked one of four ball bearings placed opposite the shaft . I ordered a set of bearing and whenever something like this is going on, just replace broken part.

Two birds in flight, one walking... Honey buzzard ( male) in flight Pentax K-5, SW80 ED+1,7 TN , handheld- only one photo sharp enough, ten blurred :( . Cropped 50%. Woodcock in display flight, unfortunately backlit; same setup, but ISO=3200 1/800s, 40% of frame. Eurasian curlew among...

Original thread about handhold techniqes is closed so I have to post here: I just support the scope with four fingers of my left hand and operating focuser with thumb. Right hand is operating camera in normal way ( photography is from February, since then I drilled holes in a telescope...

Last September I was lucky to meet osprey hunting on a fish pond. Light was tricky- low sun shining on a back of the bird, but among several frames shot at rate 7fp/s one is sharp enough to present. Pentax K-5 SW 80ED+1,7TN 1/800s ISO=1000, tripod, denoised, without cropping. I catched moment...

In theory diffraction limit for APS-C 16Mpx sensor is at ~7 aperture ( depending on wave length), but in practice SW80 ED with 1,7 TN ( aperture 12,5 ) gives better reach. I stack 1,7 TN and 2x TC only for video- goshawk was so cooperative, air was very clear and light nice - an I was able to...

Adult female Goshawk feeding on chicken. Shot at 2000mm focal length: Pentax K5, SW 80ED +1,7 TN and 2xTC stacked together, slightly cropped and resized. I met this bird with prey catched in village nearby sitting just 120-150 m from road. Goshawk was hesitating- fly away or stay. After 5...

    Lack of contrast sample

Problem can be light coming through DSRL optical viewfinder while mirror is in upper position. Mirror is semi translucent (aproximately 60% ) and in some exposures combination ( small aperture, angle of light) substancial amount of light can brighten image. That happens to me while using LV or...

The same in my places and few birds due to frozen rivers and ponds. I'm waiting for migrating season that starts in the end of February with flocks of lapwings and skylarks heading north. This time only fox I met during my walk through the meadow. Distance approximately 100-120 m.1/500, ISO=800...

Photo of Rough Legged Buzzard hovering against strong wind.Cropped to 1800*1200 then resized. White balance isn't accurate because of light coming from low Sun partially obscured by clouds and reflected from snow. Pentax K-5, SW 80ED ISO=800, 1/1000s handheld.

Woodpecker from my garden. We have got strange weather. Days are dull and cold with glaze ice 2 cm thick covering all. Usually it is cold, snowy and sunny in January. SW 80ED with Osawa telenegative, Pentax K-5 on tripod. Full fames, only resized and slightly sharpened, no noise reduction...

I have bought cheap zoom lens Osawa 100-200/ 4.5 MC.Telenegativ element is cemented doublet with 42 mm diameter, mounted close to camera inside extention macro rings it gives about 1,7x magnification. Quality is good, better than GSO barlow and old TC's I tried. Three photos of male northern...

Yesterday was European Day of Birds, unfortunately weather was very bad- cloudy and raining without any break. But as dedicated birder I had long walk around large fishing ponds. Pentax K-5 is well sealed but SW 80 ED not, so I kept during walk camera higher and optical tube lower to prevent...

This summer I was very lucky to catch two Lesser Spotted Eagles ringed with plastic rings ( designed to read from distance). One of them- ringed in 2010, other in 2009. Both in Poland. Next year I'll start studying eagles legs ;) in April. Expecting more readings. Pentax K5, SW 80ED...

I have Olympus E-520, wich in terms of noise and dynamic range is similiar to E-30. In good light I'm able to get good results, but many times conditions are unfavourable, bird is moving fast etc. Sometimes very small details are necessary to identify bird properly ( example- feathers barring of...

Three photos of young lesser spotted eagle ringed in nest in 2009 year. handheld ISO=400, 1/1000 , cropped- distance aproximately 100 m. Another LSE with marsh harrier, rare comparison of sitting birds ( these birds usually doesn't tolerate each other).

I keep dovetail of scope with four fingers of my left hand while turning knob of focuser using thumb. My palm is stretchet a little ;). Simple trick helps- I put a ring on focuser barrel exactly at the point it is set at infinity ( using LV). For bird flying 100 m away it's only light touch of...

Blackcap from my garden SW 80ED + E 520 ISO=400 , 1/1000 s, handheld. In my opinion time 1/800 s and above is enough for most situation in full light ( handheld) when object is not moving fast. Even at 1/250s with IS on I can get sharp images handheld. Marsh Harrier ISO=400 1/1250, tripod...

Interesting. SW 80ED can outresolve my olympuses 10Mpix sensor with 1200 FF equivalent and even at 1/2 size Nikon V1 sensor there are no visible chromatic aberration. Only diffraction limits resolution- no antialiasing filter is necessary.

It's 2000x1500 pixel crop resized to 1024X768 and denoised in NeatImage. Bird was circling against the wind slowly. Two photos of osprey I took while bird was busy with hunting, early in the morning with difficult contrasty light. Both handheld.
