Tufted Duck or Scaup at Crosby

Hi Went to Crosby marina to look for a female Scaup reported there today. The only bird I saw was this bird which I initially thought was a Tufted Duck but I am wondering if its a hybrid Scaup/Tufted.

    Mystery Finch near Warrington

Some one has just sent me this photo of a bird in her garden near Warrington. At first I thought it was a Siskin but it looks a bit unusual with its rather black cheeks, so not sure if that's what it is.

Herring or Caspian Gull at Sandbach Flash

Hi Roy, Thanks for confirming they were just Herring Gulls. I had really been hoping to see the Gull Billed tern but it had flown the day before.

Herring or Caspian Gull at Sandbach Flash

Went to Sandbach Flash on the 8th August to look for a Caspian Gull. Unfortunatley there were no experienced birders there to help Id a Caspian if present. The first 2 photos are of the same bird and the third is a different bird. I thought it worth checking out if either is a Caspian Gull...

Chiffchaff species at Bempton Cliffs, England

Just back from a trip to Bempton Cliffs today where I saw this Chiffchaff which seemed very pale and it spent over 15 minutes flitting around on the path and seemed to be feeding on insects. I think its the first time I've noticed a Chiffchaff flitting about on the ground. I think its just a...

    Bahrain Bittern

That would be a juvenile Black Crowned Night Heron then? My field guide image of a juvenile is a poor one.

    Bahrain Bittern

Hi, I was at Arad Park yesterday its a large tidal lagoon with small mangrove vegetation. I was with family and took this photo of what I initially thought was a Squacco Heron. Looking at the photo it looks as if it may be a Bittern. Ive only seen Bitterns in the Uk hidden in Phragmites...

    Bahrain bird Id

Thanks for confirming the ID of the birds. The Plover stuck out a mile from the others. There are not many birdwatchers in Bahrain I have only seen 63 birds and that puts me joint 1st on the ebird.org Web site.

    Bahrain bird Id

Some photos from Bahrain which I am not 100% sure of. I think the Cormorant is a Great Cormorant but making sure it's not a Socotra which I have never seen before. I think one is of a Grey Plover and the very pale bird looks as if its a pale Ringed Plover.

Bahrain Bird Id - A Sparrow and a Stonechat

Saw this Sparrow and a Stonechat today in scrubland near to Jasra. I am not sure if the Sparrow is a Spanish Sparrow, its crown seem brown but expected to see more black marking on it as I have not seen that species before. One earlier post had a poor photo of a Stonechat that 1 person...

    Bahrain Gull and a Shrike

Hi Tib, It was the only photo I took at the time and the only other birds close by were Black Headed Gulls and Slender Billed Gulls. I am visiting my nephew in Bahrain and he is a few minutes walk from a small harbour at Hamala. There are huge numbers of Gulls here but most are roosting too far...

    Bahrain Gull and a Shrike

Saw this Shrike near Hamal in Bahrain, poor photos as I had to shoot into the sun because of limit viewpoint. I think it is either an Isabelline or a Red Backed Shrike. The Gull was in the same area and not sure if it an Armenian Gull, Yellow Leg or Lesser Black Back Gull.

    Bahrain bird Id

Hi. I am visiting my nephew in Bahrain when I saw this Wheatear sp. at the Hypocolius Roost site in Bahrain but I am not sure which species. I am thinking it could be a White Eared Wheatear, I've seen Isabelline Shrikes there on previous visits but looks as if it may have a darker Ear...

    Is this just a Linnet?

I was at Newbiggin by the Sea on the 29th of Sept and saw a group of Linnets at the headland. This rather poor photo shows the bird on the right as having a pale central head strip. Not sure if it just an unusual juvenile linnet or something else.

    Gull ID Vancouver Island

I saw this small Gull at Sidney , Vancouver Island on the 18th Sept 2018 and not sure what it is. It was very close to the walkway and was about the size of a Little Gull. I did not see its legs or the bird in flight. To me it seemed too large for a Mew Gull.

    British Columbia Bird ID please

When I saw the bird it was on the path at the George Reifel Sanctuary. There was a group of birds coming down on to the path including a Spotted Towhee and a Black Eyed Junco. I never thought of it being a juvenile so I guess it was with the adult bird.
