Looking for red dot sight for use with angled scope

Hey all, I've been browsing these forums and the 'net for an answer to this: When digiscoping I want my camera to be attached to the lens. Finding the bird is then quite hard (when the camera is not attached I use a method with a tie wrap, but that won't work with camera attached). I'd prefer...

    Great Blue Heron Digiscoped

well three months late but i was just browsing the site and looking thru old posts... the pic of the osprey is nice and it's great you captured the moment it spreads it wings ! I would like to give the following positive criticism: - sharpness lies in front of the bird, on the branches of the...

Need advice regarding digiscoping with a canon rebel

I haven't any personal experiences, but I hear Opticron has a good pricq-quality ratio in the sub 1000$ segment. They also have solutions for digiscoping with a dslr on their website. Paul

Nikon CP8400 vs Panasonic Lumix G1 with Kowa 884

Hello, I have used a Canon 590IS and a CP8400 for digiscoping and bought yesterday (!) the Lumix G1. Both the 590IS and the 8400 are good cameras. The AF is much better on the 8400, bit it's slow, very slow. The 590 IS is fast and has good menus, but the AF isn't very good and the LCD doesn't...

Burst mode, "Final 10" (or last 5, or 15) - - which compact p&s has it?

Nikon Coolpix 8400 has it: "Camera shoots at up to 0.7 fps while shutter-release button is pressed, but only last five shots are saved to memory card." They're quite hard to come by, but I managed to recently o:)

    Oostvaarderplassen

Hello Stefano, There's a Dutch site, vogelkijkhut.nl, with info on birdhides. Check this link for a map with some birdhides and trails. In the information centre (the P above Zeearend) they have more information. That might be a good place to start. Missing on the map is the recently opened...

Field of view - find the bird

That works pretty well for finding a bird without the camera attached. With the camera (on an angled scope) i find the solution with the tube works better. Paul

Chooing a camera for Swarovski ATS80HD with 20-60x, DCB

Yes, I think you're right. Moreover, in the G1 thread someone said the G1 doesn't work very well with a 20-60 zoom eyepiece. Well, I think you might want to try the S90 then; I haven't used it myself but have been looking at it with eager eyes ;-) I have Canon 590IS now. It works pretty well...

Chooing a camera for Swarovski ATS80HD with 20-60x, DCB

yenlugn, the zoom range of the canon g series is too large, which gives you a LOT of vignetting. If you're willing to spend that amount of money, you might wanna check out the panasonic lumix g1. It's being discussed at lenghth in this forum. Paul

Field of view - find the bird

I have more or less sorted this problem by sticking a small tube (diameter half a centimeter, lenght 5 cm) to my scope (just on top of it, with some tape). I pointed the scope at a certain point, then sticked the tube to the scope, aligned the tube by looking straight thru it from a distance of...

the good thing about chdk is that you don't have to use it. You start it by pressing the non-assingned button on the back. If you don't, the camera will run in its 'normal mode'. A remote shutter will definitely reduce camera shake. Good luck! Paul

CHDK is a useful program indeed. It also has a motion detect script and iwill alow you to shoot .RAW. After reading the manual for the usb remote shutter i decided to buy a mechanical one from SRB griturn though... but i would have liked the electrical one. If you're handier than i am, like...

    a590is a570is a95 fuji f30 or other

Yes, lots of practice ;-P Perhaps the following is of use: - i have set the custom timer at 3 secs, to take 3 pics; - get a cable release; - set digital zoom to standard (i think): then if you have the bird in view, use maximum (digital) zoom; then half press the release button to start AF...

It was FREE...can it be used?

Hey Scott, Sorry you got no replies. First thing to do is try to hand-hold the camera in front of the scope and take a picture. Check if you see vignetting (the black circle around what you see) and what happens when you zoom in. And try to take a picture. Although getting sharp photo's takes...

    Focusing a Canon A590

Yes and no. What I meant is this: after zooming in, you half press the release button. That makes the camera (auto)focus on the subject. Then you can see if the subject is good in focus, and adjust it using the scope (!). Using this method has improved the quality of my photos. You can see my...

    Focusing a Canon A590

You have to bear in mind that the LCD is the 590IS weakest point. I use the following method: - zoom in until it goes into digital zoom. Zoom in to the max, half press the release button and adjust the focus on the scope. Then zoom out to around 70 - 100 mm (2 - 3 times optical zoom), then take...

Attempt at videoscoping with canon 590IS

Hey all, recently i got a chance to take some digiscoping pics of a kingfisher. After making them, it decided to stay on the branch it was sitting for a while longer. I tried the video capabilities of my compact, and wasn't disappointed. The original video file is four times this size and has...

    help!

Well from the specs (4x optical zoom being one of them) of the sony camera, you should be able to use it for digiscoping. Best thing to do would probably be to try without the bracket, and keep the camera in front of the eyepiece. You'll see some vignettig. Then try zooming in and see if the...

    Best cheap cameras

I'm using the 590IS as well and suits me fine. Its most important drawback is the quality if its LCD display. It makes it harder to focus, especially objects further away. If you plan to use it a lot on sunny days (without being in a hide or somethign), you'll need an LCD shade. Paul

    Settings for 590is

Thanks for that tip, bughunter. Will give it a shot! Do you still need to half press the release button (which normally induces AF), or can you just focus with the scope and start shooting ? Cheers, Paul

    a590is a570is a95 fuji f30 or other

And to be complete: the butterfly shot was taken through the scope as well. As someone else here put it: the 590IS is a fine camera for digiscoping, but it makes you work hard. I guess, though, that goes for all digiscoping combinations. Paul

    a590is a570is a95 fuji f30 or other

Hey Pete, I haven't tried any other lenses with the camera (I use a DSLR for that purpose). FYI only the pic of the swallow is one I made with the 590IS. Most other pics are from other users on that forum. The picture at leastshows you the 590IS is fit for digiscoping (and is a handy compact...
