The One that Didn't get Away !

The fish shown by the OP the Photo by Christine Georgio isn't a pike [esox lucious] it looks more like a barracuda [Sphyraena] but I'm not certain of that. Definitely not a pike.

Suggestions about Nikon D7500 with Sigma 50-500

I have a Nikon D750 and have been using it with the 50-500 sigma. It's a pretty good lens and the auto focus is extremely fast and sharp. The lens is up for sale since October with no takers so dropping the price yet again. Reason for selling is the weight, I'm knocking on 77 years old and I...

I know the area around Westport/ Louisburgh where there plenty of sea birds. I have seen choughs on the odd ocassion plus northern divers. Mammal wise the are otters...

    New Zoom lens?

I recently bought a Sigma 18 - 250 3.5-6.3 HSM OS. Very happy with as it gives me a bit of distance coupled with a wide-ish angle for those landscapes on my D90.

    The Goshawk in action

Anyone see last weeks episode of an Animals guide to Britain [Tuesday?] Brilliant shots of the Goshawk!! Spectacular bird or what?? Just amazing that it can whiz through the trees at 50kph. I was surprised Chris Packham didn't mention it's running prowess. See it on iPlayer...

    East Anglia in May

While I can't guide you onto the birds you list, I can recommend visiting the RSPB reserve at Fen Drayton, also the Fowlmere reserve. These are both within 10 miles of Cambridge. You also have Grafham Water where the Lagoons have many species also the west end of the reservoir has a wildlife...

    Sparrowhawk attack!

I posted the following on the Cambirds forum the other day: The Sunday afternoon quiet was shattered by the death of a Starling in our back garden this afternoon. At first I thought a Cat had grabbed a bird in the next garden because of all the squawking, but as I stepped out to see what was...

Can Goshawks be used to control Grey squirrels?

Not quite the words I'd have used, but along the same lines! Not prepared to bite the bullet and control the pests yourself then get someone or something to do it for you. You obviously need to delegate the vermin control! Tough decisions can sometimes need tough action. Perhaps your forest...

    US Birder Looking For Recommendation?

There are quite a few opportunities in Cambridgeshire as well. Grafham Water [60miles], Fen Drayton reserve [45miles], The Ouse Washes plus several other sites. Rutland Water is another possibility that's within easy reach [90-100 miles] of Harlow. Just take the M11 north onto the A14 and...

    Gotcha!!

Thanks all for the kind remarks. The little blighter has tired of being in the limelight and has gone all shy! He's probably moved to another location in the near area. I need to take a wider walk around.

    Gulls caught in fishing line

As a responsible fisherman who if the need is there to cut line always takes it home and disposes of it, it's annoying to see how others just discard line with no thought for anyone or anything!!:C All the education in the world doesn't get through to some of these idiots. Having said that...

    Tonight in Accony, Co. Mayo

After getting some shots of a Corncrake, as I returned home I heard the Corncrake, a Grasshopper Warbler and a Cuckoo all at the same time. All in all a pretty special evening with a Meadow Pipit and a Blue Tit joining the list for the night. :t::t::t:
