    Hi, Any of you do any dissection or specimen preparation of birds? I'm curious to see how people practice it, especially in the U.S. where it's technically illegal to collect most dead birds. If this forum isn't the place to discuss dead things, let me know and I'll shut up.

    I've used the Monarch, and really liked it (although my PI seemed to think it was a piece of crap). However, it looks like the Nikon Action that etudiant recommended is a really good deal.

    Definitely not too late Terry, thanks! I've mainly been working in the hyde park area because this is where they have been historically nesting, but it now looks like they've been expanding a lot to other areas, especially judging by the turnouts at the bird feeders where I am.

    I vote for the common fiscal. photo #2 shows a pretty narrow white band above the eye, which seems to fit more with the fiscal than with Souza's Shrike.
