    Hybrid Sparrow, SD, USA

Finally got a picture of this one Sparrow which is one in the group of many sparrows that frequent our yard. As the pics show from its front it looks normal but from other views the white really stands out when the white of the flight feathers show. The pics are of the same bird - nearest I can...

    When did we start?

Hello, I've never introduced myself but have been a BirdForum member for about 10 years. I caught the digiscoping bug back then and have been fairly active in that area, I have always used a small digital camera mounted to a scope with a home made adapter. Main reason I'm writing is to find...

South Dakota, USA need bird ID

Hot day today and took what I thought a western Kingbird but after looking at pics I am not so sure. Top of wing looks brown (late afternoon sun) and more gray than white neck. There are white edges to tail but not square bottom, other pics show a curved bottom and curving up to a center notch...

Blackbird ID please, South Dakota, USA

I was at the eastern part of SD in a woods 350' wide x 1200' long (looks like it was a large wind break at some time). I've been digiscoping these woods the last couple weeks and there are very few blackbirds there so I took the attached pic thinking it might be a juvenile of some sort. At...

    Unique deer experiance

Unusual story about a young buck. I was at my latest favorite birding woods digiscoping, when I'm in places like this I go to a likely spot (more activity) and set up so I have a large field of view - then wait. Well thats what I was doing when a loud call just about knocked me off my stool...

    Car window mount revisited

With cold weather on its way I thought I’d look at taking pics from the comfort of my car and here is what I came up with. I’ve tried the usual types and read anything I could find in birdforum but couldn’t find anything that really worked. The problem was flexibility and precision. Most...

    Zoom scope versus camera zoom

I've used both but I'm starting this thread to see if there are any particular reasons why one should have a preference for using one over the other. My first setup was a 20-60 zoom EP with a 1-3x camera. Other than a few experimental tries I ended up using the scope zoom set at 20x and always...

Plover help please - Alabama, USA

On vacation and visited Dauphin Island, found this bird at the west end of island next to a small lagoon. I think it might be a Black bellied plover in transition but am not sure. The dark patch below the wing is different on each side. The bill also seems to thick for the Black bellied.

    Remote Capture

I’ve searched for remote capture on Birdforum but did not find anything like this. Anyone try, read about, or interested in Eye-Fi memory cards? Check it out at: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0906/09061003eyefiprowireless.asp That article talks about the Eye-Fi wireless SDHC memory cards for...

    Digiscoping with a Sony TX1

I'm presently using a Sony w300 on a Kowa 883 with a 21we EP. My daughter bought a TX1 to use mostly for macro, well I just had to try it on the scope. Same sensor as WX1 and Zeiss lens so why not, besides I just could not believe the macro performance as close as 1/2 inch. It is also very...

    Savanna vs Clay-colored Juveniles

Both are listed as common in fall by the NWR. The 2 views were taken last week end at LaCreek NWR in southern South Dakota. So whats your opinion. Dry marshland was the habitat.

    Camera to eyepiece distance?

I have been digiscoping for about 4 years mostly with the same camera, scope and custom adapter. I recently bought a new camera so am making another adapter and wondered about the distance between the camera lens and the scope eyepiece. I researched it and have not come up with any new...

    Baffled

I was digiscoping this morning in Badlands National Park, South Dakota. When digiscoping if I see a new bird I get what I can so I can identify later. I scoped what appeared to be a couple flycatchers but surprised by the sienna breast. Looking in the bird book the closest I could find is...
