    Video: Hummingbirds of Ecuador.

Thanks, lots of cuts on the voice over. I hate hearing my own voice too. The flower timelapse was done in boxes with bluescreen and artificial lighting. one frame every 10 minutes. Necessary to isolate it from bugs, wind and lighting changes. As for the hummingbirds, usually 2 cameras. one...

    Video: Hummingbirds of Ecuador.

Plugging my own work here. I'm fairly certain people here will enjoy it. This is about 3 years worth of footage that I took in my old back yard in Ecuador. I've combined it with some royalty free music, my own voice over and managed to cut it down to 13 minutes with a little editing...

Help with location choices - february trip

Hi Nick. Can I plug my own place here? We have a small hostel on the east slope, we do not get a lot of people here so I spend a lot of time myself filming the birds and other creatures here in our garden. I'm hoping one day to just create videos full time and close the hostel. However till...

I wanted to share this and plug my youtube channel at the same time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83CdN2TNWOQ I recorded the audio using a bat detector, feathers rubbing together put out a lot of ultrasonic noise. I am going to work on this technique, hopefully to learn more about...

Questions about a Lek of Andean Cock of the Rock.

Thanks so much for you answers everyone. I've had another successful visit in the afternoon, and two more unsuccessful trips in the rain. So far they seem to prefer cloudy even foggy, but not rainy weather. In fact on the foggy day I saw the most activity. I have not been up there on a sunny day...

Questions about a Lek of Andean Cock of the Rock.

I have recently found a Lek of Andean Cock-of-the-rock about 2 hours walk from where I live. I have been back there 3 times at the same time in the afternoon and there has been a group of what I guess might be 10 or more males displaying for females. I can usually see 3 or 4 but from the sound I...

    Pequeno Paraiso, Rio Verde

A proper introduction. First a proper hello to everyone I had to delete my first introduction, sorry. I'm a novice birder, but very keen to learn. I have travelled South America since 2005 driving tours on overland trucks. In that time I have taken loads of photos including birds, which I am...

Documentary Photographer looking for advice on recording bird song

I have just asked a very similar question. I have the microphone and am looking for a recorder. Good thing is that the Rode and Minidisc recorder each use only 1 AA battery, simple and cheap power and it keeps the whole setup very portable. I assume they would work together, provided your...

    Rode NTG-2 Shotgun mic.

I have just been given a Rode NTG-2 Shotgun mic as a gift. I have an old sony micro tape dictaphone which would probably not do the mic justice. Has anyone used this mic in the field? is it even suitable for recording birds?, if so what would be suitable recorder to go with it? thanks, Marc.

    Hummingbird feeding sequences.

Thanks Niels. I will keep an eye out for Thornbills as we have none sighted so far. We have had the Glossy and Masked Flower-piercers sighted in the past. Once I am home in two weeks I will keep and eye out for all them. Will require a lot of work, but maybe I could capture the hole being made...

    Hummingbird feeding sequences.

These are some shots I took at home using a Canon G11 with a speedlight, tripod and a lot of patience. Each shot is about 2 seconds apart. The attachments show a few of the Sparkling Violet-Ear. There are more shots in the sequence and of a Bronzy Inca in the below link...

Comment by 'Guest' in media 'Burrowing Owls'

This was with several other people clicking away at them. Hence the fact they are not looking directly at me. My first sighting of a burrowing owl, and there were four of them!. The other two are in the hole in this shot :)
