Spent the day there today, most of the day at the Rufford hide, but it very quiet, so decided to move back to the visitors centre to have my sarnies and a cuppa, but on getting to the Lancaster Hide we found a pair of Kingfishers sitting on the posts...

Didn't see unfortunately as she was very reluctant to rise, even when a Canada Goose wandered within a few feet.

Great day at Mere Sands today. No sign of the kingfishers so far, but the visitor centre rear garden was buzzing with Bullfinch, Chaffinch, Reed Bunting, Goldfinch, Greenfinch, Blue Tits, Great Tits and a flyover of a Kestrel. In the woods we spotted a Wren, multiple Chiff Chaff's, Nuthatch...

Another couple of hours at Mere Sands today, took up my usual perch in Rufford hide to wait for the kingfisher and wasn't disappointed. It seems the 3rd brood seems to have fledged as 3 were seen flying across the lake at once. One bright point was a Green Sandpiper that took a snooze where...

The past 2 times I've been to Mere Sands, there's been a Buzzard hovering back and forth between the fields and the lakes. Would be easy to mistake the Buzzard in it's pale phase for a Marsh Harrier if it wasn't the fact that it was calling the whole time.

From what I could see there's only 1 small tuft of reeds within the fenced area, maybe the fence didn't work and they removed it due to the number of complaints from photographers (not myself, but I've heard innumerable mumblings and grumblings and some more vocal comments in my 2 visits).

Managed a few hours at Mere Sands again today to test my new ED80. Kingfisher still making a great appearance at the Rufford hide until some blokes that were dredging the area to the right came and removed the fencing that the kingfisher has been using to perch on. Hopefully this will mean...

Had my first trip to Mere Sands today. I made my way round to Rufford hide as I'd never seen a Kingfisher and from past reports, this was one of the best places to see them. I wasn't disappointed as 10 mins after arriving what I think was a male juvenile appeared one of the fence posts...
