The new ZEISS SFL 30 binoculars

NB. mildly hilarious that folk who think nothing of hauling x50 and x56mm binoculars around quibble about the weight of a rainguard. Go and get some glass, please, and go use them.

The new ZEISS SFL 30 binoculars

They are not cheap if they are available (Zeiss Dialyt Rain guard). I am not really fond of it personally (It sits on the 8X56 and that is it). I think the Nikon rain guard would be better, easier to obtain and lower in price, lighter in weight. The Dialyt rain guard is like a chunk of lead...

Yes philipp you are very correct on the straps that they provide with the BD II series glass, they could have been longer.

If the SV 8X32 is too heavy, or even the SF 8X32, I wonder who is using these, are any here trekking into the alps at 15 to 18K feet with overnight camping? If one does not have a premium glass, and wants one glass to use day in and out, the SFL will I am sure do the job. Additionally the back...

The new ZEISS SFL 30 binoculars

I have never seen those prices for used SVs or SFs, am I looking in the wrong places? I would pay that or a bit less for the SFL, but not the asking price.

The new ZEISS SFL 30 binoculars

The M7+ is the cheapest of the lot, and it is made in China. And my quote is true regarding labor costs.

The new ZEISS SFL 30 binoculars

Chinese labor is cheaper than Japan and well below Europe.

The new ZEISS SFL 30 binoculars

I always found the SVs to have very easy eye placement for a 8X32, but I have deep set eyes. There are so many in this category. It does look like they are hoping the smaller size with the 18mm Eye relief and light weight with that FOV at about 8 degrees will dominate the 8X30 class. Like you I...

The new ZEISS SFL 30 binoculars

Well the SFL 8X30 does have some competition at lower cost. We will see what the performance is soon enough.

The new ZEISS SFL 30 binoculars

Thanks Phillip, That would be a bit over $1,600 US. I purchased SV 8X32 for less than that.
