You can also consider waiting until Swaro introduce the improved armor they've been working on (if they announce that?), or buying a pre-owned ELSV. There seems to be some confusion as to when the problematic material was introduced, but ~2015 seems likely, and year of manufacture is easily... -

Weitwinkel, wide angle (industry standard 60°+ AFOV, not so "wide" compared to some earlier models) Brillenfreundlich, eyeglass friendly (high enough ER) These designations are no longer in wide use as most everything is WB these days. -

Thanks for prompting this ridiculous response. "Tears and cracks" are not merely "optical" (presumably they meant "cosmetic") damage, and examples of degradation have occurred involving only modest use. There's no point wasting more time anayzing the problem; one can only hope to be lucky... -

Indeed... but we can't blame EL/SLC owners for not having followed a care suggestion they were never given, or even NL owners who got no explanation of it. The clear implication here is that the new armor is especially sensitive to sweat and dirt and requires regular cleaning. One can accept... -

But these wouldn't be only Austrian regulations. Where is the disintegrating armor on Zeiss, Leica, Meopta etc? What is Swarovski not acknowledging doing differently? (they are also the only one to phase out hydrophobic coating so far) In any case at this point one can no longer dispute... -

Just another data point: I have a 2011 SLC 42 and two 2018 SLC 56s, all of whose armor is fine. The climate here is on the drier side, though it does get hot in summer. (The 42 previously lived on the Gulf Coast which gets quite humid, probably for a decade; its armor seems similar to ELs.)... -

Or no longer? My 2018 SLCs are just fine. It could be useful to collect dates of manufacture from complaints posted here, and correlate them with announcement of the new eco-armor.
