Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

It might be, but at the same time we have to look more closely at why so much negativity is being generated here. Perhaps they could have better trained their CS staff especially in the US, but the fact remains that they have improved armor now, and if yours comes apart they will replace it at...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

The discussion didn't seem to be about people not on this forum. But now that you mention it, it would be nice to have a clear statment of what models and s/n ranges had potentially problematic armor, even though most owners (probably including me) don't seem to be having the problem. On the...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

I wonder whether Jan's posts would get more respect if he added "House of Outdoor" as his custom title. Is information Swarovski gives a major dealer of their brand somehow not "official" enough?

Don't forget sunlight is part of the problem too. If I had Tehri's software I'd assemble an image of an EL with a parasol accessory.

You can also consider waiting until Swaro introduce the improved armor they've been working on (if they announce that?), or buying a pre-owned ELSV. There seems to be some confusion as to when the problematic material was introduced, but ~2015 seems likely, and year of manufacture is easily...

Weitwinkel, wide angle (industry standard 60°+ AFOV, not so "wide" compared to some earlier models) Brillenfreundlich, eyeglass friendly (high enough ER) These designations are no longer in wide use as most everything is WB these days.

Perhaps that's because you're not paying attention. I questioned your distinction between "materials design" and "materials choice", not CR and marketing. In any case, I have little patience for mere talk, or talk about talk, for unimportant jargon, spin, "messaging", virtue-signaling etc when...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

I confess I don't recall whether CR or marketing is actually your area of competence, but if that's a difference I can't get interested in it, and doubt that many people whose armor is falling off could either.

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

It is not "long known" or "often discussed", the TPU armor only dates from 2015 and the problem often takes several years to develop. There have only been a couple of previous threads about it, and only just now has this one arrived at some clarity as to a product quality issue, vs...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

In their place, I wouldn't touch a thread like this, especially since they actually do have a problem and need to be careful what they say about it, and clearly nothing could possibly satisfy those complaining here anyway, not even "we're working on it, and meanwhile we'll replace disintegrating...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

Not to mention Leica, Meopta, and everyone else. This is the question I asked before. It's not an issue of "regulations"; why is Swarovski the outlier here? It seems that most problems result from sweat, mechanical wear, etc from repeated handling of binoculars, whereas scopes are mounted on...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

The trouble with Ruffled Feathers is that "no moderation" makes it a place not to discuss controversial topics, but to drop any pretense of respect for others.

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

Recycled now! It just keeps getting worse. Are binoculars meant to be used only in the shade? Who has ever heard of skin or allergy problems with them? Who wants biodegradable armor on a binocular meant to last for decades? How can plastic be called "biodegradable" anyway, when everyone...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

Thanks for prompting this ridiculous response. "Tears and cracks" are not merely "optical" (presumably they meant "cosmetic") damage, and examples of degradation have occurred involving only modest use. There's no point wasting more time anayzing the problem; one can only hope to be lucky...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

Then I must have misidentified the "earlier question" you were clarifying by mentioning Dale, which was... what again? I've corrected my post. Very nice. This really belonged in a discussion of glare, which has now been totally eclipsed by armor. I suppose a change is welcome after a while...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

Indeed... but we can't blame EL/SLC owners for not having followed a care suggestion they were never given, or even NL owners who got no explanation of it. The clear implication here is that the new armor is especially sensitive to sweat and dirt and requires regular cleaning. One can accept...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

But these wouldn't be only Austrian regulations. Where is the disintegrating armor on Zeiss, Leica, Meopta etc? What is Swarovski not acknowledging doing differently? (they are also the only one to phase out hydrophobic coating so far) In any case at this point one can no longer dispute...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

Just another data point: I have a 2011 SLC 42 and two 2018 SLC 56s, all of whose armor is fine. The climate here is on the drier side, though it does get hot in summer. (The 42 previously lived on the Gulf Coast which gets quite humid, probably for a decade; its armor seems similar to ELs.)...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

Or no longer? My 2018 SLCs are just fine. It could be useful to collect dates of manufacture from complaints posted here, and correlate them with announcement of the new eco-armor.
