That sounds like it may have been a Common Buzzard (depending on the size) seen them on the heath there quite frequently. Additional clues are in the habitat (Buzzards like to disappear into woods, Short-eared Owl much less likely so, occurring on saltmarsh, vast open heathland and moors) time...

I had a look today around lunch time. Be aware that the clearing on the west side of the main road is private property (I thought it was part of the Country Park) I was duely ejected by the land owner who was on site at the time (he was polite and I was respectful) Speaking to someone who has...

So I've set up an account, Andy@Norf_Viz_Mig on Twitter. I've never 'tweeted' in this medium before (as opposed to trying to coax a autumn phylosc out of a bush!) so know not what I am doing yet! I have posted a first tweet, refering to an hours watching before work this morning at Sidestrand...

Viz-Mig on Twitter I have been pondering the merits of a Norfolk Viz-Mig feed on Twitter and was wondering if there would be much (any!) interest in this? The idea, as the title suggests, would to report Viz-Mig in 'real' time as it is happening throughout the county. This would enable those...

For non-pager viewers, have just left (1045) 45 Waxwings feeding in gardens in Taverham, Norwich in the area of Baldric Road/Fakenham road junction. There's a number of loaded berry bushes here so they may well stick around for today at least.

Given that they are diurnal migrant, that apparently dislike crossing water, is there much evidence that Jays were coming directly in off the sea anywhere along the east coast in their hundreds (which they must surely be doing, as we only see a proportion of birds) in support of the common...

Looks like a 2c/y bowling pin to me, or if size wasn't apparent when you saw it ...could be the London gherkin. ;)

Agree with Dave, grainy 1st wtr Common Gull, if size was judged to be of a 'small' gull, or maybe even a 3rd C/Y ish Herring if size was not apparent? Don't look quite right for Sabines
