Well you’ve picked a great time to visit! I apologise as didn’t realise you haven’t been before and aren’t to know the demise of certain birds. Both reserves will delight you anyway so enjoy finding what you can. I have enjoyed many occasions with Montys and Orioles - such a shame they no longer...

I would say good luck! My understanding is that sadly Oriole and Montys are lost as breeding birds (and folks wouldn’t add them here if they were not). Turtle Dove hangs on and Titchwell often gets a mention around the car park in terms of birds “available to all”. Corn Bunting used to be good...

Really sorry to hear this Penny, what a thoroughly nice chap your Father was. Never too much trouble to discuss birds in any way shape or form. A testing time for you and the family I am sure but bask in the knowledge he did what he loved - many don't get that same opportunity. Lots of love.

I appreciate they are doing well in Norfolk now but 3 Red Kites together at the north end of Lady Anne's drive this afternoon was a bonus. Weather pretty dreadful all day so not much else to report.

With at least 20 Spooners at Titchwell can I ask if the post breeding flock has relocated or does Cley still have similar numbers? Is it indication of another great breeding season?

Quite right. Keep the sanctimonious political bullshit off these pages guys, neither side covers themselves in glory so neither should be portrayed in a positive light. The fact that the Irish are no longer blowing each other to bits has to be positive so let's leave it at that?

I echo the suggestion of Titchwell meadow trail too. We often comment over how they are almost guaranteed there in our experience. There were 3 in the same area as YBW when it was present late November.

Birding World landed via the postie today and Mark Golleys excellent article is inside re Western. Also a piece on the "other" calidris present when I went which is very interesting - albeit no conclusion drawn yet. I am still very intrigued.

Nice to share a couple of hours in daukes hide this afto grilling the waders present. The "short billed" Dunlin type was almost as interesting as the Western. I described it as "rotund" at the time which I stand by and very short billed. Very interesting. Thanks to those who shared their...
