    Just been down to Brockholes while I can! They're filling the moat in. What a disaster area. More interested in the buildings and playground facilities than the wildlife. I feel like we've been conned by LWT.

    It is possible to wander down there. The Ribble Way runs alongside and they can't shut that. Just follow the sign off the roundabout which says "Quarry Access Only" and you can get there. Or park on the bridge and follow the path to the left through the farm.

    Approx 50 waxwings feeding on the trees on the rec near Euston Street, Preston. Watched them from 12 to 12.30 then they all flew off. Something behind me spooked them. Don't know where they went - not Fylde Road!!

    Gradders: couldn't find any waxies round Stocks Road, Fylde Road etc this morning. May try again this afternoon.

    Waxwings on Fylde Road Preston today. Between Minuteman and Bath Street. Spent about an hour watching them. There were 30-40. Kept flying off then coming back. Between 3 and 4pm.

    It is a nuisance that the two are so similar in name. I wonder how many birders end up going to the wrong spot? I envy you the merlin (never seen one) and the peregrines. I haven't been down to Brockholes for quite a while. I don't like what they have done or what they are intending to do but...

    The Ron Barker hide is at Martin Mere. This is the WWt place near Rufford. Marton Mere is near Blackpool.
