    Straight or angled scope

I agree, that is how birding works. Which is part of why this discussion is taking place. The zip tie will help align the scope to the target but not the human body P.S. both of those pics are very cute. I’m glad your daughter enjoys the hobby as well

What I am saying is that his daughters body position and scope position adjustments could be better optimized for better views. Even with the angled scope

Yes, in that picture she seems to have her body posture in two different directions Hunched over and shifting to the side, which is probably the reason why she has her right arm lifted. This is fine for quick general looks. But eventually her body will shake more and see less detail

Red herring? Just do the NPA test and prove your theory.

    1. https://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=45476 2. Agreed 3. Angle often requires use of muscle. The longer you use your muscles, the more you strain and you experience shakes in your image 4.depends on user. Many hunters know you can find much more wildlife from the highest vantage point...

    Straight or angled scope

Agreed, and in addition straight scope often: -many times offer better optics because angled scopes require extra prisms and coatings that can have an effect on letting slightly less light reaching the eyepiece - slightly better in foul weather without rain, snow, etc. landing on eyepiece -...

    Straight or angled scope

I mostly use binoculars for astronomy as well, more so then my Astro scopes. Matter of fact binoculars are my preferred tool of choice in most things. It’s only constant talk about NPA because misinformed people want to continue criticizing it. Which I don’t think is fair for people who might...

    Straight or angled scope

No I mentioned I lay flat for astronomy when looking at zenith By the way, when your looking at zenith with angled spotting scope, you still need a tall tripod and it’s not comfortable to look at either. As you probably know 45 degree angle spotting scopes are despised my many astronomers...

    Straight or angled scope

From what I’m told angled is way more popular in Europe. Several Manufacturers and birding books mention this. Supposedly our viewing habits are slightly different

I have never denied that there aren’t other valid views to angled, I admitted them several times in this thread

Red dot do dominate in shooting sports but not when it comes to birds or flying clays.many have tried over the years with much failure. Go to any shotgun or sporting clay forum and they will look down on red dot sights. Because you point not aim. That’s the fundamental rule when switching from...

    Straight or angled scope

Movement of your body and movement towards target are two separate things. You eliminate movement for each target for a natural aligned viewed without shaking. But you still move your body for each target and very quickly. I defined alignment several posts back, regarding body, eye, optic, and...

    Straight or angled scope

NPA doesn’t mean you stay in one position. You move quite a bit, matter of fact much more so then birding when shooting multiple targets in very fast succession. With no time to adjust your aim with zip ties for each new object your looking at. Otherwise you will loose big time You simply...

Most popular cars and trucks are Toyota Camry and Ford F-150. Sports car production is minuscule in comparison Does that mean the Camry and F150 offer better performance on a racetrack? No, not at all.

    Straight or angled scope

I agree, straight scopes require more adjustments for sharing. But if your looking for the best scope for you as an individual and you agree with the concept. Then “straight” might be a better fit Yes one eyed, all day glassing does get to most people, that’s why many are using more powerful...

I wouldn’t be surprised the next time you use your scope, your going to try some of the things I talked about.....I also wouldn’t be surprised if you had a thought saying, “that son of a biscuit might be right”

    Straight or angled scope

It’s for reference take it or leave it Your still using more muscle with angled scopes compared to looking straight ahead, regardless how good your tripod is. Plus your eye and body is not in alignment with the object Hundreds if not thousands of people get trained in NPA everyday, many using...

    Straight or angled scope

Using more muscle will disrupt your sight picture over time, especially at higher magnification In addition if you noticed with straight, the body/eyes are in alignment with your optic and the object your looking at. You can close your eyes for ten seconds and still be aligned with the...
