Nikon Monarch HG wins 1st Place in Field and Stream test of 13 new Binoculars.

There is a thread where the durability issue was addressed by a member who is a professional photographer and does tours of the lion country in Africa. The very nature of his work means a binocular will not lead a sheltered life. Here are a few comments he posted about the Nikon HG durability...

Nikon Monarch HG wins 1st Place in Field and Stream test of 13 new Binoculars.

I think it should hold up just fine for anyone who takes reasonably good care of their equipment. It does not seem any stronger or weaker than most of the stuff out there. The mechanics work well. I do not find any play or flex in the hinge. The diopter adjustment is firm with a solid...

Gilmore Girl ...... I know you have a high regard for many of the members. Your intentions are not in question, it is just that your choice of wording comes across as overboard to me. You have always been up front in expressing your opinions on what other folks say and all I have done is...

Nikon Monarch HG wins 1st Place in Field and Stream test of 13 new Binoculars.

Chuck ..... Thanks for the follow up to my question and your summary of the Monarch HG. I share your opinion that this is a very good birding binocular. I have had mine a month or so now and finally got a chance yesterday afternoon to take it out to the local riparian for a couple of hours...

Nikon Monarch HG wins 1st Place in Field and Stream test of 13 new Binoculars.

Reviews for the most part contain subjective opinions so it is understood up front that there should be some skepticism and everyone has to reach their own conclusions. The phrase "to take with a grain of salt" to me implies extreme skepticism to the point where the comments may a well be...

Nikon Monarch HG wins 1st Place in Field and Stream test of 13 new Binoculars.

Chuck ..... As I recall, you have a Nikon Monarch HG 8X42 and had a Tract Toric 8X42. Did you have them at the same time and if so did you do any side by side comparisions? ......and to think that just last Sunday you were taking reviews "with a grain of salt" (post 106). ;) I am not seeing...

Nikon Monarch HG wins 1st Place in Field and Stream test of 13 new Binoculars.

I spent some time comparing my Nikon 8X30 EII (newer black covered) with the Nikon Monarch HG 8X42. For me, the HG has a larger center view. That appears to be consistent with what Allbinos is reporting when reviewing the 8X30 EII with the 10X42 Monarch HG. "Blurring at the edge of the FOV"...

Nikon Monarch HG wins 1st Place in Field and Stream test of 13 new Binoculars.

Maybe the Nikon press release announcing the introduction of the Monarch HG will help clarify Nikon's intended meaning of periphery. "While achieving a wide field of view, the Field Flattener Lens System assures a sharp and clear view all the way to the lens periphery."...

Nikon Monarch HG wins 1st Place in Field and Stream test of 13 new Binoculars.

You and I both have the Canon 10X42 L IS which is great because that gives us a common reference point. You extend the eye cups out one position when viewing without glasses whereas I extend them two positions out when viewing without eye glasses. This means I need a longer eye cup length than...

....... and what did you replace it with? (A Ziess SF 8X42?)

Nikon Monarch HG wins 1st Place in Field and Stream test of 13 new Binoculars.

Dennis ...... Nice summary of the Nikon Monarch HG 8X42. I have had mine now for a couple of months and am quite happy with it. I agree with most of what you observed with just a few exceptions. What makes this binocular stand out among other models in the same class are the exceptional...

Assuming you are referencing the 10X42 Nikon HG in the review, then the review shows 362 ft for the 10X42 and that is what Nikon USA is showing in the specs. http://www.nikonsportoptics.com/en/nikon-products/binoculars/monarch-hg-10x42.html Could you be thinking of the 8X42 HG which has a...
