Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

When I bought mine in 2013, I paid $719 which I think may have been a sale price. Today, they are about $930 and you can get an occasional sale price on them. If you're selling a used pair, my guess would be in the $650-700 range. Does the warranty on Zeiss transfer over to a new owner? If...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

It won't. Worth it if you have money to spend on the best (assuming you get a well made sample) but the optical differences are more subtle than some here would have you believe. Much nicer eyecups. Personally, aside from the construction issues I had with the SFs I received, the front hinge...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

OP here. The more I thought about my own experience with the 8x32 SF vs. the 8x32 Conquest HD, even had I gotten a properly working SF, I came to this conclusion: Yes, the SF optics are slightly better, no question but only very slightly. The wider FOV wasn't something I took much note of as...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

The birdwatching.com discount was increased to $250 and that's what BH matched when I showed them. Of course, I gave up the harness and cleaning kit birdwatching.com offered but they also charge a 5% return fee if you return the bins because you don't like them. BH charges less than $10.

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Strikes me as a total non-issue.

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

BTW, on the protective coating that one or two have complained about, I called Zeiss CS and they confirmed it is an applied protectant for potential long term storage (you know, the supply chain issues?) and are, apparently, now including a cloth and note about what it is in the current batches...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

I've never looked through the FL 8x56s so I'm of no help to you, sorry. Save for a couple of old astro bins, I don't go bigger than 42mm.

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Well, I guess I'm going to find out the end of this week if the SFs are all that. I was able to convince BH to do a price match with another Zeiss AD who I'd not done business with. So $2g, free expedited shipping, and no tax. Should be here Friday. Dammit, I knew this would happen if I...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

But I already bought the Conquests in 2013. And, like eronald said, there are a whole lot of other things to do with the $$ than get a slight increase in performance, especially because I already own a pair of the finest binoculars ever made (IMO), the Victory HT 8x42s.

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

I'm not sure I could keep those even if it were only cosmetic. Not for that kind of money. None of my Zeiss bins ever had any residue on them when fresh from the box.

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Without naming names or telling us your credentials as to why you have such insider information, your claims are just more internet ramblings. Being the OP, I think I posted a while back that I came to my senses about the 8x32 SF. I have no doubt they're fabulous bins but having only paid $719...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

I still am very tempted, in spite of what I said earlier in this thread, to order the 8x32 Swaro NL and 8x32 Zeiss SF before the end of the year. Just so I know. ;) If one of them works better for me than my recent Leica experience, I'll probably keep one. Like many of us here, I'm at a...

Interesting take. You might be right.

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

The Conquest HD is far from "midrange" IMO. But the eyecups still suck and I have yet another pair on the way. Also, it's closer to 40-41% of the cost of the comparable SF. As I only paid $719 for my 8x32s in 2013, mine were less than a third of the cost of the SF.

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

I'd listen to Lee on the rubber but the looser eyecup is a question that needs to be addressed.

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

So I want to update my thinking on the SF vs. Conquest. I live in Idaho near the incredible Snake River Canyon and went on a long walk with my son today on a trail at the bottom of the canyon. I'm not primarily a birder by any means but birding, astronomy, and general long distance viewing are...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

All the forum critiques in the world won't tell a person how a pair of binoculars will work for them. Earlier this week, after reading so many glowing reviews of the Leica 7x35 Retrovids and, more so the 7x42 UV+, I had one of each delivered. No doubt the optics were wonderful on both, and...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Isn't the 8x32 FL Zeiss' former top of the line model? I doubt I'd be looking to upgrade from that one either.

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

I regret almost everything I've sold in years past but not so much anymore as I get older. Today, a buddy of mine just called about a firearm of mine he wanted to buy earlier this year but finally has the $ so he's coming over tonight. That about covers half of the Zeiss VSF 8x32! ;) I would...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

But I already have three Teles! ;) Once the return of the two Leicas (thread in the Leica forum) I sent back yesterday is complete, I'll probably order the SF 8x32s and if they are what I hope they are, I'll probably either sell my Conquest 8x32 HDs or put them in the Land Cruiser and sell the...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Yeah, those too. I don't do guitar forums any more. 22 years of mine was enough.

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Got those too and too many amps. I used to run a guitar forum around Fender guitars and amps and, somehow, over the years they multiplied. Now, I don't play much and find myself interested in different pursuits. Or, I could always sell a watch...;)

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

I know, first world problems. I already know the answers to my questions but I'm looking for encouragement. ;) I tried a couple Leica (7x42 UV+ and 7x35 Retrovid) just this morning and couldn't get on with either ergonomically so back they went to BH. Lovely optics though. For me, I'd guess...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Other than a wider FOV and slightly brighter image what do I really gain? IIRC, focus distance is a little closer with the Conquests. Having the Victory HT 8x42s as my main bin, I do see a difference between that glass and the smaller Conquests, particularly in color. The Conquests, like my...
