    Thanks for the input Andy. I found some pictures that are similar but don't have the grey bit on top. It would be interesting to know though....

    Thanks for the input. I have just read a bit about UK wolf spiders and as you said ID without a specimen is not possible, and that's not going to happen anyways. Not my thing. Take the picture and leave them alive, that's me.

    Hi All I found this spider sitting on a log in a gloomy wood. I am guess that the big white golf ball is an egg sack but curious aboput the crusty thing on top? Could some please ID as well? Thanks, Gareth
