Thanks for that - I was scratching my head too. A quick look in OBC - this guy looks similar?

Very unusual frog - nice! Is the second bird not a redstart? perhaps Daurian?

A very nice hour! Lots of nice birds. Glad to know spring is coming somewhere - pretty white yet where we are.

(I watched another adult assembling legos yesterday - quite different from when I was small ;) ) Lovely card. Merry Christmas to your family and all on the thread! I appreciate all who make this China bird forum an exciting and friendly place.

Nice pictures! I am ignorant though and am only sure of the Ibisbill - what are the others?

Thanks Roland for a clear explanation and a map! Very nice to get a big view. An interesting question might be how similar the flora and fauna of the three ranges are since they aren't contiguous or linked.

What an exciting trip! "Highlight for me was the encounter with Pallas's Cat that gave long views of an adult with 2 kittens" - that would have been my highlight too even without long views! I guess the Pallas's Cat is still pretty tough to see, even in the right places?

Hmm... America never suffered from that, did we? :eek!:

I have friends in Dujiangyan, and have been wanting to visit. It sounds like a nice place to live. Having Leiothrix as a garden bird sounds okay!

Yes, a very nice shot of the chestnut tail! The prinia on the other hand has a rather sorry looking one (though I guess they're typically sparse). Were you in the same area in the summer? Sounds like it was a fairly pleasant and interesting survey.

Yes, very encouraging! Thanks for letting us know.

(Ed, not the helpful answer you want, but I recommend a voice recorder or using your phone as such if possible, if you're not into pencil and paper.... This is the only way I find I can recall the salient id points after seeing a bird - that is my conclusion after many disappointing "losses" of...

Tibetbird, just wanted to comment that I enjoyed your pictures too, some very nice close shots of handsome birds! It was interesting to see what birds you see around up there.

Jiujiu, I'm interested to see your question. I've noted what look like a few bird houses on our campus, but I have no idea who put them up (way up -3 meters or so), and I've never actually seen birds (or any other animal) associated with them. It's a mystery I still haven't solved.

Wow, all very handsome birds and apparently exciting finds - thanks for sharing!

I will have to digest the stonechat info - thanks for all the details. I was just looking at one the other day which didn't look quite as I expected... Nice pic of the rufous-faced - quite a handsome guy! Interesting to hear discussion of YBW vs. Humes too (though I won't be weighing in on...

The new site looks great - lots of info and great to have so many photos. This should be very helpful to people wanting to know about sichuan birds.

Chinaguy, I wonder if you are posting these recordings on Xeno-canto or some other repository? It's great to have them as references. The one of Saker shows your great parental ability to interpret primitive speech already!

More congratulations to both of you! Amazing you can still think of bird sites and recordings ... hope all three of you are well.

Sid, that's an impressive cuckoo - your two shots really give a good sense of what he looks like, and the flight photo is especially nice. Yes that call almost sounds mechanical, except for the slight variation every few notes - quite distinctive. You guys all have some different birds in...

Wow... you guys! These foxes do look a little like you bought them at the store though - are they real? Very fuzzy and rather short legs. Nice to see the next generation coming on for the Steppe Eagle too.

Wow, sounds like you have had a great trip - open roads, permission to travel, and great sightings! Palla's cat - very nice!!! Contrasting foxes too... Looks like some nice birds as well. (I've listened to the firethroat, but would not call him a melodious singer.) PS - Do all of your jays...

Wow, lots of nice birds! Little owl picture particularly nice. Like the action shots of griffons and rosefinch as well. Very impressive picture of the nuthatch's hind claw as well. Thanks for sharing details of your trip!

Thanks for these two recordings - nice to hear the brown flanked as he was calling, though I wish I could have identified all the songs there - quite noisy in your woods! (the expression chalk and cheese is new too - but it makes a strong image) The yellow bellied is quite a piercing song -...
