I begin to doubt the reliability of future Turnstone totals Andrew, if some is one, then what should we understand from 86 or 92? :eek!:

If struggling, just make them up - would rival his Torry Wren ;)

Please send our weather back - it's been depressingly warm this year, was even above zero this weekend just gone! Outside now, only minus 5, boring stuff. Snow forecast for rest of the week at least! No dodgy domestic geese to report from this side, nor Pink-footed Geese. And the Purple...

Whilst on the roll about lack of accurate totals ;) I have to say your count of Red-throated Divers certainly brings a smile ...the number of birds was similar to two! So what's that, there was only one? Or there were three? :-O

Slacker, what's with 'at least', we've come to expect exact totals, none of this lazy stuff. You'll be off twitching next!

But piles of discarded clothes don't even make the 'merest fragment' qualification if relating to interesting data ;) I do like this thread though. Bit disappointed at the lack of Wrens recently though.

Lucky they got waylaid in the pub on the way, could have been half way to Bucks otherwise, eh? ;) Still not sure where this leaves the esteemed Professor of Listening, what with him being an Englishman and all ...in his defence I would like his discovery of the Torry Wren be taken into...

    Birds fae Torry

Scandal I know, but under that kilt, there is talk that the esteemed Professor is truly an imposter from south of the border, his last stance against the tide of 'going local' being his brave valiant attempts to keep his local patch, in classification at least, under a flag not so tied to the...

Influenza. But indeed the north is frozen, minus four this morning.

Oo, another claim neatly slipped into the depths of a particularly long post, sneaky one Andrew. Now, given last year's full written description resulted in a good degree of healthy scepticism on the BF rarity committee, I do think a voice only claim needs very careful consideration. Please...

Nothing like a gentle return, is there? he says, as sixteen Purple Sandpipers come falling from the skies, the triumphant shooting their demise. ;)

    Birds fae Torry

As the esteemed Professor of Listening, I do think this analysis of the call of King Eider to be rather feeble, almost a cop out I would dare to suggest ;) You really should take it upon yourself to become a rather fuller BF critic of all sounds, pleasant or otherwise, vaguely related to birds...

Considering they are followed by 'eyes up the local talent', you might be able to guess.

Trust Helen to reduce the thread to smut again, especially given when the best her thread can do is a mere list of ticks ;)

Unfortunately the Biblical Wren is not too chuffed with the Steroid Eiders and a right hoo-ha is building up, can't promise the hide will even survive if a full battle scrum breaks out between them. No Purple Sandpipers roosting here though, not even one.

As pedants are all welcome on this thread, I'm struggling a little with the above sentence - how can the last refuge of a stringer be a place where you can't string?! Surely if it is the refuge, then I can string, no? PS. 26 Steller's Eiders were on my peanut feeders today, only to be displaced...

Defending a record already discredited does little to raise one's battered reputation. It was a mouse, we all know it was a mouse, and resorting to attacking the honourable Helen's Dunnocks will still not change the fact that it was a mouse. So, I vote for a record committee to be be formed...

Just to crush this before it gets out of hand, there is rumour that the record is actually stringy. So the story goes, somebody said 'rain' in a particular dialect and Mr Whitehouse, the so-called 'Professor of Listening' misheard it as 'Wren' and in his eagerness squinted through the rain (thus...
