    No, that's not what I mean. Of course a 12" scope will show more than a 4" scope. It is a matter of convenience and aesthetic. The refractor was easy to setup and view through, mounted on a motorized equatorial mount, and brought stars to sharp pin points on a satisfyingly black background...

    In addition to the already mentioned poor contrast, most Mak-Newts and Schmidt Cass scopes have poor focussing range and are more fussy about about differential in scope temperature v air temp. I've also never heard of a water proof mirror scope. Oh, and most need frequent collimation...
