    Ah.. but what if you've already identified the egg by, eg the way the nest is made and by the pattern?

    Interesting stuff. So I wonder if those who count heard onlys, would tick vocalisations coming from within the egg? And at what point would the sighting feel ok to tick? An emerging bill? I recall feeling a bit weird about counting a fluffy Tengmalm's Owl chick that I saw by peering into a nest...
