    Dioptre setting on a 12x50 UV+

@Patudo Thanks very much for your reply. Very helpful and reassuring! Michael.

    Dioptre setting on a 12x50 UV+

Hi Andreas, Thanks for your contribution. Yes, setting the diopter at or close to infinity makes a lot of sense (see my reply above to Tom!). I have been setting it at significantly greater distances than previously, but I will set at infinity in the future. If I wasn't now sure that the...

    Dioptre setting on a 12x50 UV+

Hi Tom. I actually find that I get the more consistently good results when viewing at greater distances. I have found that now I have the diopter set correctly that I get good results at any distance(!), but previously I would set the diopter at a distance of around 100-120m and it would seem...

    Dioptre setting on a 12x50 UV+

Just a final update. The last few mornings, after a good nights sleep and in beautiful spring sunshine, I've had some of the best viewing experiences with my 12x50's that I've had. Dioptre set to +2. That now seems to give me constantly good results, so that's now my '0'! Fantastically clear...

    Dioptre setting on a 12x50 UV+

Tom, Thanks for the reply. Sorry to hear about your left eye. At the end of the day there is always the possibility of using glasses, but I totally understand your preference to view without. After much further testing I have to say that I'm not really any the wiser. Sometimes I can get a...

    Dioptre setting on a 12x50 UV+

After several days further testing I seem to have made some progress..... although this may be subject to change! A few things now seem to be clear: 1. That our eyes can vary from day to day, and even from morning to evening, and if one is very sensitive to diopter adjustment this can be...

    Dioptre setting on a 12x50 UV+

Thanks @Binastro and @tenex. It certainly is possible to turn the diopter gauge slightly when pushing it in. I always make sure I'm looking at the gauge when I reset it. Generally, if you push directly down from the middle it doesn't move, but I know it can if one isn't careful.

    Dioptre setting on a 12x50 UV+

When I adjust the diopter so I get a perfect image with both eyes and then try the right tube with my left eye, the right tube is in focus. That presumably means that the diopter gauge itself IS showing incorrectly. That is what I thought must be the case because the alternative is that I do...

    Dioptre setting on a 12x50 UV+

Thanks for the response,@tenex. Typically I'm focusing on objects between 20-50 meters away, so atmospheric conditions shouldn't be an issue. I can see that shallow DOF should help when setting the diopter, on the other hand the fact there's less possibility for error may make small adjustments...

    Dioptre setting on a 12x50 UV+

This is a simple question about dioptre setting. It seems much harder to set the dioptre absolutely correctly on my 12x50 UV+ than it does on my lower power binoculars. Also, in general, the ease of view is not what is on the lower power bins - even compared to a 10x42. I presume that it is the...
