    Why do some predators have so many failed hunts?

    Young Peregrines often have eyes bigger than their bellies, or self-belief far better than their abilities. Once saw a young Peregrine hassling a Grey Heron - needless to say, it didn't succeed (!) though it did manage to avoid being impaled. Their failure rate is high, and their survival rate...
