Need advice for Travel Scope and Tripod

It did arrive. We have used it but I don't think I can recommend it. It is very fiddly to set up but it's ok when it is. It's reasonably well made but fairly heavy.

I can answer those question straight away (based on the reviews on YouTube) Q1 - Stray light can be a problem...cup with hand? Q2 - It's hard to set up...practise makes perfect? Q3 - It doesn't hold its adjustment too well...refer to Q2 That said, it is cheap but (apparently) well made. I...

It looks fun to make an adaptor but I decided to buy the GoSky adaptor from Amazon (and take a hit for the team) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Spotting-Scope-Smartphone-Adapter-Mount/dp/B01DG8ONGO/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_107_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=SVSYFVJ4Q09VD5X17V8Y It should arrive tomorrow...

Need advice for Travel Scope and Tripod

Those phonescope adaptors aren't especially cheap given the price of stuff listed on ebay which, on the face of it, look to be exactly the same. Can anyone recommend a cheap but effective phone adaptor for the ED50 please?

Yes, your photos and videos are much better than mine :) You mentioned an adapter....which do you use?

Here's a couple of snaps taken through the scope using a mobile phone. These are a bit wobbly....more to do with hand holding of the phone rather than the scope.

Need advice for Travel Scope and Tripod

My wife and I were out and about with the scope today at Key Haven / Pennington Marshes. It is true to say that the FoV is rather narrow but it still still provides a nice sharp view. It was fairly windy, so on higher magnifications one had to hold the tripod steady to prevent wobble of the...

The lens cap has arrived. The Size 7 is a nice tight fit on the end cap and provides a wide band of rubber to protect the end of the scope. I feel it is a good addition to the scope.

Tried to buy a natty accessory for the ED50 today but got outbid :( https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nikon-Fieldscope-ED82-Telescope-with-25-75x-Zoom-Lens-and-Stay-on-case/323162411522?hash=item4b3dfb1202:g:gi4AAOSw90xas5S7 I went to £500, which I thought was a reasonable price to pay for the...

The 13-40x eye piece has arrived. Had a quick go in the house and in the back garden. The scope does not disappoint. :) The view is bright and crisp. The FoV is fairly narrow when fully zoomed in but at 13x it is relatively easy to find the subject. Overall I'm pleased and, more...

I've ordered one of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vortex-Flip-Cap-Optic-Cover-size-FC-3-4-5-6-7-/322847055701 Vortex-Flip-Cap-Optic-Cover-size 7. It's suppose to fit 55-61mm. It cost £12 with free postage but it could take until the 9th April to arrive. I'll let you know if it's any good.

I did look at that thread but I doubt whether I have the expertise or tools to produce the threaded tube....but an interesting read anyway.

Damn! Should have got that one. It is slightly cheaper (£3) but, more importantly, would have been here today rather than Monday (I have Amazon Prime).

I was a bit concerned that I hadn't had a confirmation email from Clifton Cameras regarding the eyepiece I ordered last yesterday. The 13-40x was listed as the last one. It's now listed as available to order. I logged onto their website and the order was listed as pending, so I gave them a...

I think they would be perfect for my wife's Conquests (she hates the ones supplied as standard) but I like the wider rubber rand of the Bushwacker for the scope.

Hmm. Can't find the Bushwacker in black in the UK (or Europe). Only Amber...and I don't like the amber caps. Why is everything so difficult? I like the McNett stuff but am not too keen on camo. There is a black variant (which I prefer) but, wouldn't you know it, it's currently unavailable!

Well, the eyepiece from Uttings were not in stock (even though the website says it was). This is the second time I've tried to buy something from them and it turned out the good price wasn't real. I think I'll give them a miss in the future. After a bit of a panic that I wouldn't be able to...

Need advice for Travel Scope and Tripod

Well, it's been exhausting. Why did I go for the Nikon? Well, as much as I'd have liked to go for the Opticron, there just doesn't seem to be the weight of favourable reviews out there to compete with the Nikon. I can't find a bad review on the Nikon except for the odd grumble regarding eye...

Need advice for Travel Scope and Tripod

I've read a lot of threads bemoaning the apparent lack of support by Nikon for the ED 50. It seems the more popular (fixed lens MC II) eye pieces have been discontinued. This is nudging me back to the MM4. The problem is that there aren't too many reviews of the MM4 online. It's a pity that...
