    Thanks Joachim; just the sort of info I was seeking and hence the reason they aren't popular I suppose. How about the Hawke Endeavour 50mm, would this offer a suitable alternative for the OP? I've read good reviews of this scope in several places, both ED & non-ED versions. RB
