    Best bird of the DAY?

    American Redstart. The male fluttered down from a tree above me and landed on a thin weed about 25 feet away from me. I thought I was looking at a pair of butterflies at first! Then I watched the female Redstart bathing in the river. Lifer for me.

    My Eastern Meadowlark last week. They were showing off like porn stars and fairly confiding. I have waited well over a year to see this bird that is described as "common locally but declining in open, grassy habitats" by Sibley.
