I guess it depends on what other equipment you carry, scopes, cameras, lenses, tripods, food, water etc. (every gram counts, and grams become kilos…:-C) and how you do your birding, a 10x50 could be fine for couple of hours, but maybe not 2-3 days intense birding from dusk to dawn.

bigger exit pupil is always nice, even in good light I think, the 10x50 SV is available here for 2000 € now, 10% rebated, thats 250 € less than the SF 10x42, hmm, a bit tempting, but no, the weight will be too much, most likely

It might even be the worlds widest PORRO.. ;) definitely missing a porro in the zeiss line up, :t:

The EL 50mm and the SF 42mm is the same length (174 mm vs 173 mm), the EL 42 is about a 1/2 inch shorter (160 mm) so the difference in length are not huge, pretty impressive compactness in the EL 50mm,

see my updated previous post, don't think the market is big enough, now when then conquest HD:s exists, most birders tend to prefer 42mm but a 7x35 SF would be fun, but i'm probably wrong as usual, :cat: but a well balanced and light 10x50 SF would be a dream.. but now back to the swaros… :-)

sorry to say, but zeiss already have the 10x54 HT, I don't think there will be at 8x32 SF either actually. right now zeiss bino line up feels a bit messy actually, old and new models, cheap and alpha, FL:s, terras, conquests, SF, HT naahh…I'll take the green pill…instead of the blue I think... :-O

IF your eye pupil can dilate to 5.6 mm, depends (typically) on your age: http://content.lib.utah.edu/utils/ajaxhelper/?CISOROOT=EHSL-Moran-Neuro-opth&CISOPTR=105&action=2&DMSCALE=75&DMWIDTH=487&DMHEIGHT=464&DMX=0&DMY=0&DMTEXT=&DMROTATE=0

you may be correct, but how about this: 1. The human eye is said to be able to distinguish +-10% in brightness differences. 2. A 50mm objective lens can catch 42% more photons than a 42mm. 3. Maximum eye pupil size can vary between individuals (5-9 mm). 4. What we define as "daylight" can vary...

    10X50 Swarovision

sorry, I was not clear, I meant the latest HD-version, the older conquest models were not of the same quality concerning FOV and eye relief etc. http://www.zeiss.com/sports-optics/en_de/nature/binoculars/conquest-binoculars/conquest-hd-binoculars.html#models but it's a lot bigger than the...

Zeiss Conquest 10x56? not as good as the SV 10x50 but cheaper..

Eye relief is much better on the SV, the 8x32 FL have 16mm according to spec. My 7x42 FL I measured to 15mm effective, so I suspect that the 8x32 might have a bit less, and I got that impression when testing. The view is a bit more cramped. The 8x32 SV have 20mm ER according to specs and...

old (japan) porros often had squaren shaped exit pupils… that was not optimal.. ;) but not very common these days,

I think there are many parameters involved in creating a relaxed view: Exit pupil, resolution, light gathering capacity/objective lens size, brightness/transmission, contrast, size/design of the eye piece/eye relief, FOV, AFOV, edge to edge sharpness, depth of field, field curvature...
