Spent a second afternoon looking at the SV, SL, FL, and UVHD+ 8x32s, as well as the UVHD+ 8x42 and 7x42. Very very interesting. The Leicas were viewed on the top of a parking garage adjacent to the Leica store, so not a great place to look but at least outside. The others were at the... -

It is very possible the sample I have used of the FL x32 is not the best. My bottom line is just that I prefer my Conquest HDs to them. It is not to say I don't think they are very good, because they are. -

Hi Bill, I did look at them, as well as the 8x40s. I thought they were very cool, though I didn't love the handling - a little more bulk is nice. I also really want waterproof. Definitely part of the fun though! -

Thanks for the long thoughtful responses. I appreciate the comment about using all day. That is one reason actually I like my Nikon SE's - they are a very comfortable view, best for all day hard birding. I realize that's not exactly what you are saying, but that too is a factor. The Uvid... -

Yes, and the idea that anything in this category kills something else is silly. It's down to differences and preferences...and I feel like we're into a zone where I'd prefer whatever is in my hand...at least to a certain extent. -

Well, I just returned from the Leica store in Bellevue, and it was a pretty darn interesting visit. I will say comparing binoculars at the end of a day of staring at a computer screen is non-optimal. But this is a purchase I want to take my time with, and it's nice to see things several times... -

Hi Hermann, I have used the FLs several times, and just don't find them at the quality level I'm looking for. I personally find my Conquest HDs better, which I know may be a minority view but it's my experience. The SVs and ELs are clearly a step up. I'm realizing I have not really looked... -

I have owned all the binoculars I listed for some period except the FLs. However, I have used the FLs many times. Not even close to the ranking I would put them at relative to each other. -

Thanks Edmund - I would definitely put these on the list, but since they're not sealed...off the table. I find sealed binocs with the hydrophobic coatings so helpful in terms of cleaning, and keeping the interiors clear - -

Denco, I honestly find the Allbino ratings ridiculous and to have little bearing on reality. For example, I find the placement of the FLs at the top of the 8x32 list, with the Conquests at number 12, to be inaccurate. Having used both, I would take the Conquests every time. And honestly, the... -

Hi all, I am going to make a purchase, and want to be completist with option consideration, and realized I hadn't considered these. I love our Leica BNs, they are so nicely made...there's a lot to be said for that. Asking because seeing the Ultravids will be a bit of an effort.
