The Zeiss Victory SF 8x32: a somewhat idiosyncratic, but comprehensive review

Finally got around to taking a photo - this one's for Swissboy.

I'd say, good on you, brother - enjoy!!!

The Zeiss Victory SF 8x32: a somewhat idiosyncratic, but comprehensive review

Hi Eitan, thanks for the kind and thoughtful reply. Your and others' thoughts about color are very interesting and thought provoking. I feel like we are just getting around the edge of a very complex topic. Atmospheric conditions and planetary position all seem like they would have big...

The Zeiss Victory SF 8x32: a somewhat idiosyncratic, but comprehensive review

So I'm wrapping up my review to let everyone know I have decided not to keep these. It's honestly a bit of a heartbreak, because I loved them, other than the yellow-green cast in certain conditions, which is why I decided not to keep them. I mentioned above that I was not positive about the...

The Zeiss Victory SF 8x32: a somewhat idiosyncratic, but comprehensive review

I'm glad there's a few dozen of us worldwide willing to tweak out on these details. Bottom line, I love the 8x32SFs, but they don't have the crispest or easiest view. And sorry, they do have a green cast, for me. I got fed up with my assessment and bought copies of the whole kit and...

The Zeiss Victory SF 8x32: a somewhat idiosyncratic, but comprehensive review

A short jaunt today (mostly blue sky conditions), colors seemed quite accurate. Still can't get my head around the resolution. I am wondering if maybe I don't have the best pair? But my eyes lately are shot by ten hours a day looking at the screen. Historically, I have always preferred...

The Zeiss Victory SF 8x32: a somewhat idiosyncratic, but comprehensive review

What I'm most curious about are folks' impressions of 3D/resolution. Does a flatter presentation make for more definable resolution? I do believe my eyes were tired yesterday when I had them out for the day. But then, that is an actual field condition. : )

The Zeiss Victory SF 8x32: a somewhat idiosyncratic, but comprehensive review

Part Three - View It’s funny, after all the buildup, I feel like my comments on view may be a little anticlimactic. Also, I apologize for drawing this up so much – I thought I’d be able to get this all out at close to the same time. Probably the most distinguishing aspect for me about their...

The Zeiss Victory SF 8x32: a somewhat idiosyncratic, but comprehensive review

Part Two - design form Part Two Design – Form This discussion here is limited to aesthetics/overall gestalt. Some may question that here, but to me, most of us here love binoculars as a design object, no different than other cool mechanical thing. So why not? Overall, I like these a lot...

The Zeiss Victory SF 8x32: a somewhat idiosyncratic, but comprehensive review

This is very good to know. However, I will still greatly prefer a metal lug, specifically stainless in that location. It does not seem like that would be difficult. That is what is on my BNs, and they inspire confidence.

The Zeiss Victory SF 8x32: a somewhat idiosyncratic, but comprehensive review

I had actually gotten curious about whether I had falsely stated the material, so I emailed Zeiss, and this is what they said, disconcertingly: "Thank you for contacting ZEISS Consumer Products. They are mostly plastic. Do not put metal rings on them as after time they will wear through."...

The Zeiss Victory SF 8x32: a somewhat idiosyncratic, but comprehensive review

I will be releasing this in two or three parts. This is part one. After long consideration I bought a pair of 8x32 SFs. I am providing this review hoping it will help others with their process – spending an amount equal to half of the price of a halfway decent used car is a little tough...
