New Canon 12x36 is lll & 10x30 is ll

I finally got a brief try out of the 10x30 IS II's at Wex Photographic warehouse. The IS did seem somewhat improved from memory of the Mk 1 we had in the household. Very stable once engaged. It did seem as though the IS button had more resistance than the Mk 1 though. Any one else noticed this...

New Canon 12x36 is lll & 10x30 is ll

I found a review for the 10x30 IS II which doesn't translate particularly well, but does end up highly recommending them. http://posec.astro.cz/index.php/clanky/technics/75-canon-10-x-30-is-ii-nova-generace-triedru-s-optickou-stabilizaci

You're welcome and thank you for explaining the axis on the graph as it wasn't really clear to me what they were. The graph was from the Kyoei-Osaka site in Japan.

New Canon 12x36 is lll & 10x30 is ll

Improved IS graph I found this graph representing improved IS in the 12x36 model so presumably there is a similar improvement in the 10x30 model.

Price dropping on 10x30IS II's Argos online is now stocking the 10x model at £399.99 probably the best price in a "proper", UK retailer with a Canon 2 year warranty.

New Canon 12x36 is lll & 10x30 is ll

Great comparison Piergiovanni - thanks for your efforts. One UK retailer has these due mid August. Unfortunately they also show a hefty price increase. The 10x30 Mk I is £300 and the Mk II is gulp £480. Hopefully the price will come down to close to the original Mk I version after a while.

New Canon 12x36 is lll & 10x30 is ll

Hi Piergiovanni Can you elaborate a little bit on the difference between the 10x30 IS I and Mk II? was the stabilisation a bit better and faster to engage? (Obviously in your reference to the new 12x36 video you meant Mk III). Thank you.

Hi Binastro. Have a look at the video 37 seconds in and pause it to see the eyepiece construction in cross section.

Binastro did you see the link to the canon european site I posted earlier? It clearly shows a photo of what Canon call a doublet field-flattener lens. As I don't know what one should look like maybe you can tell me if it is one? Doug the changes to the new canon's are listed in the link also...

New Canon 12x36 is lll & 10x30 is ll

10x30 is II shows 6 degree angle, so no change there.

Cool video too on the same site.

Some more info here http://cpn.canon-europe.com/content/news/new_image_stabilizer_binoculars_launched.do with a picture of the lens doublet and claims of faster is engagement and smoother panning.

New Canon 12x36 is lll & 10x30 is ll

The info on asia site is surely wrong. The USA site shows no change in the optical design comparing the Mk II to MK I and the UK site also shows specs the same in Mk II (though the Mk I is no longer listed).
